POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advisor is the main/first point of contact for a “cohort” of Scholars within the CORE Model. The Advisor is responsible for supporting the Model in planning, executing, and implementing programs which include enrichment activities and fun events, youth and parent team meetings, and ensuring that each Scholar in their care has their basic, social, and emotion needs met through the collective impact model. She/He will provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This position is responsible for instilling important core ethical and performance values such as caring, honesty, diligence, fairness, fortitude, responsibility and respect for self and others. This role builds strong relationships with the Scholars and their families. The Advisor will serve as a primary point of contact for Scholars and families.

Description of Position:

  • Oversee assigned daily program operations for their assigned cohort of Scholars and develop and schedule program activities (e.g., individualized workshops).
  • Facilitate existing social-emotional learning curriculum and program activities to improve the overall knowledge of self-awareness for the Scholars.
  • Ensure that Scholars have opportunities for community service, college/career exploration and readiness, as well as enrichment.
  • Serve as a liaison for schools regarding student performance and disciplinary issues.
  • Facilitate Parent Meetings in at the beginning and end of the school year to discuss the necessary tools that will enable them to foster their own growth.
  • Coordinate Scholar basic needs referrals with community partners and emotional well-being referrals with the social worker.
  • Establish strong relationships with Scholars and their families to enable open dialogue about needs, facilitate home visits, and find collective solutions in partnership with the family and Scholar using strength-based assessment.
  • Remain available for crisis intervention as the need arises or arranges for coverage by emergency social services.
  • Record all pertinent information in the database system that deals with basic needs, disciplinary issues, and all other social and emotional topics.
  • Create a culture of success and accountability within the cohort based on behavior expectations and plans.
  • Create and conduct annual success plans for each scholar within the assigned cohort and regularly review the plan.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, social work, or other closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program oversight and case management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with a diverse group of youth ages 6-18.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with project-based learning.
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to function effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse staff and populations and a variety of education stakeholders and audiences.
  • Ability to monitor, analyze, consult, and report on programs and services.
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent command of English language and grammar, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with computer applications—a thorough understanding of Apple Products and the ability to learn and master other computer technology/software programs as needed. Good command of Internet usage.
  • Excellent follow-through and persistence when corresponding with families, teachers, and volunteers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of current trends and issues in education with a particular focus on issues in K-12 education.
  • Knowledge of positive, social and emotional guidance.
  • Fluent Spanish skills preferred.

Travel and Varied-Scheduling Requirements:

  • Ability to travel independently and alone (to locations which may not be handicap accessible and may include climbing stairs) and manage travel arrangements. Must be available to travel throughout the U.S. as necessary with some overnight stays required.
  • Schedule will typically be Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with the ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary to assist with program events.
