Our county is seeking one full-time Animal Control Officer to work as part of our team. This is a unique opportunity with a wide variety of duties, including the collection of stray animals, enforcing pet licenses and investigating complaints from residents within our jurisdiction. The ideal candidate will have previous experience solving conflict, successfully working in a team environment, monitoring and implementing procedures and caring for animals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with adoption or vaccination events.
  • Captures animals of various size and species; picks up stray, injured, or dead animals and transports animals to center.
  • Investigates cruelty reports, livestock claims, and animal bites; assists police and human services agencies.
  • Issues citations for violations of State and County animal control laws; may be required to testify in court regarding citations.
  • Performs privately owned kennel inspections to ensure compliance with applicable standards and/or regulations.
  • Feeds and waters animals; cleans and disinfects cages, kennels, and other animal areas.
  • Performs euthanasia of animals by injection.
  • Educates public about vaccinations, spay/neuter options, and proper care for domestic animals.
  • Keeps daily log of activities, prepares documentation and reports for trial cases.
  • Transports animals to veterinarian clinics, rescues, and/or other shelters.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.54 - $21.78 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Law Enforcement or Animal handling: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • State of Michigan Driver's License (Required)
