Position Title: Aquatics Manager

Classification: Exempt-Administrative

Salary: $43,900 - $54,800

Position Summary:
Primarily responsible for all operational, programming, managerial & risk management processes at Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pool. Aquatics Manager is responsible for planning and implementation of annual budgets, expenditures and preparation for Capitol Bond requests for Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pools. Responsible for effective and successful development, administration, execution, supervision, and staffing of all aquatic programs, facility rentals, swim meets, and related activities offered at Eisenhower and Veterans Pool and with programming duties at the Nelson Center Pool. Position is responsible for assuring appropriate staffing procedures are in place for all aquatic program administration/execution. Position takes direction from and reports directly to the Director of Recreation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for developing and implementing risk management process that will ensure the highest level of safety for all patrons and staff.
• Responsible for administering, developing, setting fees, implementing and supervising all related aquatic programs and facilities;
• Supervise General Maintenance Staff and responsible for overall cleanliness of Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pools as well as maintaining good operating systems at each location;
• Responsible for overall good customer service training and implementation with staff at Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pools and Aquatics Programs;
• Responsible for being the liaison with all user groups. There are 3 very active user groups.
• Responsible for overseeing billing to user groups
• Responsible for hiring, supervision, disciplinary action, assignment and scheduling of staff as it pertains to aquatic programming (swim lessons, lifeguards, facility rentals);
• Responsible for serving as the payroll administrator on ADP for all staff who serve at Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pools or the Aquatics Programs;
• Responsible for continuing education and maintaining Lifeguarding Instructor Certification at all times;
• Recruit, Instruct and Certify seasonal and year-round lifeguards in CPR/AED, first aid and water rescue skills as outlined by the American Red Cross.
• Responsible for communication of promotional materials, flyers, and or seasonal brochures for programs in conjunction with and the direction of the Director of Recreation & Marketing.
• Responsible for weekly deposits, revenue reports and purchases for Eisenhower and Veterans Memorial Pools.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining attendance records, registrations and fees paid, mailing list, and related documentation of all aquatic programs offered and to report such information to the Director of Recreation;
• Evaluate effectiveness of all aquatic programs and submit recommendations for fee and program changes annually;
• Responsible for assisting in organization and operation of other programs and special events at discretion of the Director of Recreation & Marketing.
• Responsible for monthly Board Reports on the Aquatics Programs and Facilities; required to attend monthly Park District Board Meetings when requested by the Director of Recreation;
• Responsible for development and preparation of Capitol Bond Project, facilities, programs and staffing budget information;
• Position will perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation;

Relevant Education and Experience:

• Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through prior work experience in area of recreation, program or related work experiences;

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to deal with other people in stressful and /or difficult situations
• Will be required to work in indoor and outdoor pool settings, with temperatures accordingly.

General Requirements:

• Must have a high school diploma and/or college degree or equivalent supervisory experience in managing a recreational facility or related field.
• Must possess good oral and written communication.
• Physical capabilities – lifts 50 pounds, squat, bend and move as necessary for the job.
• Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
• Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Must possess valid Illinois Driver’s License.
• Must possess professional phone skills and work well with the public.
• Must present a neat and professional appearance.
• Responsible to follow policies and procedures outlined in Springfield Park District employee manual.
• Must live in Sangamon County, in the State of Illinois or must be willing to move to Sangamon County in the State of Illinois within the first 6 months of acceptance of a position with the Springfield Park District.
