Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students’ success after graduation. Job Summary
The Associate Director, STEM Programs will leverage program management skills to drive new initiatives and oversee a variety of experiential offerings designed to prepare students for successful careers in STEM. This team member will work closely with department leadership to advance strategic goals, while also collaborating with employers, alumni, parents and campus partners to expand opportunities for students in STEM.
This position requires a passion for impacting students through career services, working across teams to execute new initiatives, and the ability to think strategically about program management. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and talented individual contributor with a record of success in complex, fast-paced environments where collaboration is critical to success.
Responsibilities
- Applies in-depth knowledge and expertise within career services and employer relations development to lead ERD for STEM programs and oversee the STEM Employer Advisory Council.
- Supervises two Assistant Directors and sets the priorities and direction for these roles, ensuring alignment with Career Advancement and University priorities.
- Designs and executes experiential programming and workshops that support the professional development of students pursuing careers in the sciences.
- Uses best practices both internal and external to UChicago to manage and expand partnerships with STEM employers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors to create internship and full-time opportunities.
- Supports Career Advancement in developing and maintaining relationships with campus partners and Registered Student Organizations as well as with a variety of parent and alumni volunteers.
- Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Advancement communications materials, including donor proposals, memos, agendas, newsletters, web content, presentations, and general email outreach.
- Works closely with the College Development team and internal staff members to fundraise for STEM initiatives.
- Utilizes first-hand knowledge and skills gained from recent industry experience or academic background to successfully counsel and advise students interested in careers in the sciences.
- Maintains efficient methods of tracking student data, quantifying student engagement, and reporting on student outcomes.
- Assists students with professional resumes/cover letters, interview preparation, graduate school applications, general career guidance, and industry exploration discussions.
- Conducts job search and career management related large lectures, hands-on workshops, special events, training programs, and one-on-one career coaching sessions. Acts as a resource for and directs students to other career resources as needed.
- Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches. Assesses student feedback and evaluations and collaborates with other career services staff members, student organizations, or other staff to determine program offerings and innovations.
- Researches organizations that are hiring and partners with a wide variety of employers to ensure recruitment strategies meet their needs. Maintains contact with a portfolio of employers to serve as their dedicated Career Advancement liaison.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Expertise in the STEM field developed through professional experiences or academic studies.
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Working Conditions
- Work evenings, occasional additional weeknight and weekend days.
