The Benefits Strategy Consultant will partner with leadership on the design and strategy for UHG’s health and welfare plans (UHG, OCI and OPS). This position supports the design, benchmarking, communication and implementation of enterprise-wide health and welfare benefit programs. Engages and manages vendors, as necessary, to ensure programs are market competitive, fiscally sound and documentation meets legally required standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partners with team to create annual strategic plan, including developing business cases for changes using benchmarking and financial/cost analysis
  • Partners with Director to implement evidence-based plan designs aligned with enterprise strategy
  • Supports integration activities, including analyzing new plan designs and exceptions requests for alignment with strategy
  • Assists with data analytics, participation in industry surveys to ensure market-competitiveness, reporting and communication distribution lists
  • Partners with administration team, vendors and others on the implementation of new plans, plan design changes, etc. including review and updating technical requirements to support Open Enrollment and other adhoc projects
  • Partners with the communications team to create, review, and present accurate and engaging benefits communications materials for candidates and employees
  • Partners cross functionally (HTI, administration, compliance, compensation) to ensure alignment with programs and strategies
  • Back up support for vendor workflows, internal Employee Center Benefits escalations/cases, escalations from various areas, ad hoc projects and deliverables; performs other duties and projects as assigned
  • Responsible for the accurate delivery of benefits programs that meet the objectives defined from the wellbeing, design and compliance teams and support the overall enterprise benefits strategy
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of new and existing laws, regulations and guidance applicable to health and wellness benefit plans, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, Section 125, HSA, and COBRA

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Health Care Management, or other relevant program
  • 5+ years of experience in consulting, plan sponsor or health and welfare administration or similar experience
  • Experience and proficiency in providing consulting and collaboration with internal business, People Team, as well as external business partners
  • Experience maintaining knowledge of best practices in the Benefits industry (e.g., CEBS, World@Work, BGH, current vendors) and incorporate into Benefits practices/programs (e.g., design trends, legal/regulatory changes, technology, benchmarking)
  • Experience developing communications content, tools and resources to ensure awareness and understanding of Benefits programs and an optimal user experience
  • Proficient in gathering, analyzing and utilizing benefits-related data, as well as, conducting reporting (i.e. benefit-related surveys, benchmarking, measurement of benefit data)
  • Review benefit plan effectiveness through data analyses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with benefits administration, HRIS or payroll systems
  • Experience working with vendors and external consultants
  • Experience working in a matrix organization
  • CEBS or Benefits Certification

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
