Child Care Licensing Program specifically consists of an inspection of a broad range of registered and licensed childcare facilities to determine compliance with complex and changing state regulations. This position investigates complaints related to noncompliance with established rules governing the program in the facilities. Other duties include recommending negative licensing action, developing directed plans of correction. Which may include technical assistance. Coordinating compliance plans with the contractor who provides the required technical assistance, monitoring facilities that have difficulty meeting minimum compliance requirements and assisting these facilities to meet requirements. Evaluating plans of correction, conducting follow up surveys to reassess compliance. Assisting new and existing providers in understanding and meeting State requirements for licensure.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

What you can offer us

  • Knowledge of Montana Codes and ARMs, Federal and State legislation, rules, regulations, and polices concerning licensure of and services provided.
  • Knowledge of child services systems, standards of good practice in child protection social work and the relationships between these and the effectiveness in ensuring the health and safety of children in care
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, physical disabilities, and other special needs
  • Skill in interpreting complex State and Federal regulations and policies and translating these into action steps for preventive or remedial agency endeavors.
  • Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing on different levels with a wide variety of individuals from varying socioeconomic backgrounds, including children of all ages, child welfare professionals, providers, staff and concerned families.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to upset, distressed, grieving children, family member(s), providers, and providers’ staff; establish rapport, defend and justify departmental positions, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work independently in an organized manner in the field without supervision; ability in exhibiting self-initiative and sound judgment and work as a team member; ability to prioritize and manager work within limited time frame.
  • Meet minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral sciences (social work, psychology, sociology, family, and consumer sciences), early childhood education, elementary and secondary education, business, and public administration
  • Three years of job-related work experience
