The Academy Apprentice will support the Chocolate Academy chefs team by assisting in activities related to the Chocolate Academy, such as application development and testing, the execution of demonstrations and training, and the organization of the Chocolate Academy. This is a part time position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the Chocolate Academy chefs in recipe production and testing, including but not limited to scaling ingredients and preparing recipe components (e.g. ganache, buttercream, sponge, etc.)
  • Assist the Chocolate Academy chefs in the execution of live or recorded demonstrations and training, including operating audio-visual equipment (training will be provided).
  • Support the Chocolate Academy chef community engagement strategy by capturing and editing photos and videos of Chocolate Academy personnel and activities for social media use
  • Perform comparison, testing, and troubleshooting exercises with Barry-Callebaut products (e.g. comparing Barry- Callebaut and a competitor’s compound; determining capacity of Mona Lisa chocolate cups for volumes and weights)
  • Conduct background research for Sales support activities, such as researching current menu items of a specified chain customer
  • Maintenance of the kitchen, including monitoring ingredients for expiration dates and ensuring that the Academy and its tools are organized and maintained
  • Assist with dishwashing as needed
  • Administrative support: type recipes into recipe templates, update the shared folder of images and recipes for the North America Chef team.

About you:

  • Degree or Certificate in culinary studies preferred
  • 6 months to a year of experience in the food industry
  • Professional, sociable, methodical, and extremely well organized
  • Ability to deal with a changing environment and ambiguity
