Supervised by and/or Reports to: * Principal, School Nurse, Supervisor of Nursing

General Responsibilities*:
Provides support to the School Nurse on a daily basis by providing a variety of health care services to students, staff, and communication with parents of students under the direct supervision of professional staff.
*

Follows the school nurse's instructions and procedures to assist in the daily operation of the clinic.
- Keeps the school nurse informed as to the urgency of student needs.
- Administers care to students as directed by the school nurse.
- Assists with medications only when directed by the school nurse.
- Signs students into the clinic, noting the reason for requesting services.
- Takes student's temperature when appropriate.
- Shares information or locates students as requested by the school nurse.
- Answers clinic phone calls; summarizes requests to school nurse.
- Assists the school nurse with the maintenance of records and reports.
- Provides minor care and first aid as authorized by the school nurse.
- Helps maintain and support the school clinic.
- Assists with screening programs.
- Assists with medically involved or medically fragile students as directed by the school nurse.
- Administers first aid to students and staff for minor injuries as needed.
- Assists with the assessment of illnesses, diseases, injuries and certain health screenings of students and staff under the direction of professional staff.
- Assists in the maintenance of medical records and daily logs of clinic visits.
- Reports sensitive situations and/or extensive injuries/illnesses to professional staff for further evaluation.
- Works under protocols established by school nurse.
- Utilizes the nursing components of the electronic Health Records software as directed by the school nurse.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Communicates with parents via telephone regarding student health problems.
- Maintains the clinic.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *
*
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of universal precautions for prevention of communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports.
- Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers.
- Ability to operate standard office, word, and data processing equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and associates.

Requisite Education and Experience: *
*
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must possess an active CPR/AED/ First Aid Certification with hands-on training.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience working with children in an education, health care, or child-care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
- Serve as a role model.

Physical Requirements: *
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing, stooping, and physical management that includes supporting individuals with impaired weight bearing or unsteady gaits, repositioning individuals in therapeutic equipment: including use of hydraulic lifts to a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance. The job risks exposure to infectious disease/pathogens; blood and body fluids; and medications. Ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules and attention to detail.
