Purpose:
Accurately input charges to patient accounts in the practice management system via electronic or manual method
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accurately keys service and diagnosis codes and modifiers to patient account in a timely manner
- Utilizes practice management system to thoroughly review and accept charges from electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner
- Corrects keying errors / coding errors identified by the practice management claim edits or other sources in a compliant and timely manner
- Maintains and applies high-level carrier-specific coding and billing rules to avoid unnecessary rejections and denials
- Follows established auditing protocol to verify existence of documentation for services billed
- Works with Provider / Clinical Staff to correctly capture services performed in documentation and service code(s)
- Accurately selects service code, applicable modifier(s) and diagnosis code upon review of documentation, as assigned
- Works with Insurance Advisors to successfully appeal coding-based denials
- Maintains patient confidentiality

Qualifications:
Required:
- Professional Coding Certification from recognized organization
- Accurate data entry skills
- Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 codes and modifiers
