The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and extending functionality of our Test Scoring and Data Warehouse software applications using C#, SQL, and other web programming languages.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Programming:

a) Develops working knowledge of multiple applications and the associated computing environments
b) Completes simple data fixes with close supervision
c) Evaluates and modifies existing programs to correct errors or to make requested changes in procedures or reports
d) Programs independently on well-defined tasks, asking for help when needed
e) Tests and debugs program logic per defined test plan
f) Evaluates accuracy and presentation of output

2. Communication:

a) Communicates with the entire programming team and assigned support staff
b) Uses the designated change management system for task assignments

3. Planning, Design and Documentation:

a) Confers with team to suggest design improvements
b) Works with team to set timelines and task sequences
c) Documents procedures worked on and collaborates with team on assembling user documentation, per established standards

4. Other:

a) Maintains confidentiality of information
b) Responds quickly and calmly to system emergencies
c) Establishes and maintains good working relationships
d) Supports the team approach and promotes team guidelines
e) Uses professional development opportunities to improve skills and become aware of new technology
f) Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:

Must hold permanent status as a Computer Programmer; OR; Must be reachable on current Computer Programmer civil service list; OR; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional* appointment as follows:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college or university with an Associates degree in Data Processing or Computer Science and one (1) year of Data Processing experience involving computer programming; or:

B) Satisfactory completion of a certified course in computer programming as offered by a New York State approved technical training institute and one (1) year of data processing experience involving computer programming; or:

C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of data processing expereiences, at least one (1) year of which must have involved computer programming; or:

D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

The successful *provisional candidate is subject to a civil service exam at a later date.

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience coding in C#, JavaScript, and/or MVC
• Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, or other major database software
• Ability to work in a team environment and solve problems independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
