GENERAL SUMMARYWorks under the supervision of Manager of Transportation. The Courier's primary job function is to transport mail and materials throughout all facilities of SOMC and other locations as designated. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
-
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Licensure:
-
BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)

Experience:
-
Previous experience in driving delivery vehicles preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:
-
Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with customers and co-workers.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
-
Must be able to operate all company vehicles; automatic and standard transmission and handle vehicles in any weather condition.

Essential Physical Requirements:

Physical level is medium. May occasionally lift 50 pounds; frequently lifts 25 pounds or less; and often walks a slower speed carrying 10 pounds or less when transporting items to various departments.

Essential Mental Requirements:

Capable to deal with irregular activity schedules, deadlines and ability to pay close attention to detail. Ability to deal with various responsibilities in day to day activities.

Sufficient vision and ability to speak and hear to perform duties.

Exposure to Hazards:

Exposure to temperature changes. May be exposed to bio-hazardous materials if spilled. Frequent exposure to hazards of driving, such as poor road conditions and ice and snow.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Collects postal mail from post office, delivers to both hospital campus mailrooms and sorts per department.
- Transports interoffice mail, medical records, x-ray films and reports and distributes within S.O.M.C. facilities.
- Transports legal and confidential material for S.O.M.C.
- Transports small portable patient equipment and materials within the healthcare facilities of S.O.M.C.
- Transports biological specimens and bio-hazardous materials to and from various locations for S.O.M.C.
- Delivers materials to financial institutions.
- Completes daily vehicle condition report and recommends or requests appropriate maintenance to be performed.
- Prepares and maintains accurate transportation logs and other data as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
