Description of Job

The Colorado Community College System is hiring a Data Specialist to join our Career & Technical Education (CTE) department at the CCCS System Office. CTE data are used internally by CCCS as well as by the Colorado legislature, districts, colleges, and reported to the federal government. They provide critical information that helps tell the story of our programs and learners as well as informing data-based decision-making processes at CCCS and across the state. In this position you’ll operationalize the acquisition, development, use, and dissemination of data/information for statewide CTE. This position also conducts technical calculations and queries for federal accountability metrics reporting and ensures CTE systems meet compliance requirements.

The Colorado Community College System’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) team serves approximately 2,000 CTE programs at the middle, high school, and postsecondary level across Colorado, including approximately 179 school districts, 20 community colleges, and public entities such as the Department of Corrections. Duties Include:


  • Manage the development of reports, including working with the CTE software development team, describing statewide accountability for submission to the U.S. Department of Education, as well as internal and external ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Use SQL queries to manipulate and retrieve data from large datasets.
  • Manage annual statewide CTE accountability reporting schedules and deadlines to ensure timely and accurate reporting. This could include collaborating with developers to create and/or update new reports within the CTE Gateway.
  • Design and disseminate reporting procedures to internal and external users.
  • Ensure data privacy, integrity, consistency and accuracy.
  • Completion of data section and relevant support for consolidated annual report, General Education Provisions Act report, and other federal or state level CTE report submissions.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Bachelor’s degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Two years of related experience, such as in education or business, working with data, or in analytics is required.
  • Experience building SQL query generated reports.

Work Location/Travel Expectations:
  • This position is located at CCCS Administration Building, 9101 E. Lowry Blvd, Denver, CO 80230.
  • Regular in-state and out-of-state travel estimated at up to 25% is required of this position. Travel frequently includes providing technical assistance and training to colleges and school districts related to Career & Technical Education, meetings with other states and the U.S. Department of Education, presentations at state CTE meetings and conferences, and with partners (e.g., CWDC, CDE) across the state. Some travel includes evenings or weekends.
CCCS offers the options of alternative work arrangements (remote work/adjusted schedules). Work must be completed within the state of Colorado.
