Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the Orthodontist, the Directors of the Craniofacial Center, and the RN Clinical Manager. This individual also assists in the administrative duties of the office as needed. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures, including complying with all Rush University Medical Group Customer Service Standards.

Position Responsibilities:

Performs the duties of a Dental Assistant in the orthodontic area under direct supervision of Orthodontist/Director of Craniofacial Center.
Assists in taking patient records, fitting bands, bonding, monthly maintenance, tooth and appliance care, appliance removal and retainer placement.
Assists in cleaning and sterilization processes as mandated by JCAHO and RUMC.
Assists in fabrication of retainers and other laboratory tasks as directed by Orthodontist.
Assists in maintaining inventory of orthodontic and other clinical supplies.
Assists in securing patient records for evaluation and treatment purposes. This includes taking and developing digital panoramic and cephalometric x-rays and photographs as well as integrating and utilizing these records in various software programs.
Provides clinical support to RN Clinical Manager.
Assists RN Clinical Manager with patient flow. Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
Cleans, prepares and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations. Assists in the care, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
Maintains an inventory of medical and linen supplies.
Maintains quality control for equipment.
Participates in quality improvement projects.
Maintains compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and other regulatory bodies.
Provides administrative support to Directors of Craniofacial Center and any Center activities
Provides front desk support including answering telephones, greeting visitors and patients, schedules patient appointments and providing strong customer service.
Assists in the reconciliation of accounts for the former MSP billing system.
Maintains safety station binder for Center.
Maintains ISDS website for chemical inventory.
Performs chart audits as required by JCAHO regulations. Submits monthly report to Infection Control.


Position Qualifications Include:

High School diploma or equivalent required.
3 years of dental assisting experience.
Bilingual - Spanish/English - necessary.
Strong computer skills required with an emphasis on billing/ accounting.
Strong computer skills i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Tops software.
Excellent communications skills, detail-oriented, persistent, independent, resourceful and friendly.
