Job description: The Director of Nursing (DON), reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operations and patient care provided in the facility. Ensures compliance with patient care standards. Assures competency of all clinical personnel. Assists in formulating the budget and maintains efficient and effective departmental operations. Assures compliance with all state, federal and local regulations as well as The Joint Commission standards.
Responsibilities: The DON has the following responsibilities and specific duties:
- Oversees daily clinical operations and supervision of RN’s, clinical technicians, behavioral health staff, and independent contractors (Pharmacist, dietician, massage therapists) to ensure clinic staff are well prepared to provide patient care
- Assist in education and training of staff by working with the Director of Education and Director of Clinical Operations to provide new staff with appropriate onboarding tools and ensuring current staff are within compliance in education requirements and licensing expectations
- Monitor monthly budget guidelines
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Plans and coordinates the clinic’s physical infrastructure to ensure optimal efficiency
- Responsible for performance reviews and feedback to employees and independent contractors, implementing plans of correction when needed.
- Understands the scope of practice for RNs, LCSW, and unlicensed personnel, and assures all staff are operating within their scope
- Monitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement
- Coordinates and supervises activities such as staff meetings, QM meetings, etc.
- Maintains required competencies for all employees within the department
- Works as an RN or Tech as needed, in order to maintain adequate staffing levels to meet patient care needs and regulatory guidelines
- Collaborates with Clinical Director, Medical Director, Physicians, Director of Education and Quality Assurance, Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Marketing and Community Relations, and Admissions Director to assure patients receive complete services in accordance with their own individual treatment plan
- Monitors and maintains supply of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals
- Maintains all required documentation of pharmaceuticals as per DEA, State and Joint Commission regulations.
- Monitors patient satisfaction scores and implements quality and performance improvement
- Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to patient care
- Responsible for investigating patients, physician and staff complaints and concerns, and works to resolve them
- Actively participates in Quality Management Committee (QMC)
Essential Qualities:
Demonstrates critical thinking, reflection and problem solving. Takes initiative and takes on responsibilities to improve clinic functions and procedures with evidenced based practice when directed. Requires minimal supervision and guidance, utilizing independent and collaborative judgment in decision making. Ability to multitask and prioritize work issues properly. Must possess experience in verbal and written communications, clinical information systems, as well as detailed nursing documentation in an EMR. Exhibits good interpersonal skills to interact with a multitude of different situations, demonstrating tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions. In depth knowledge of behavioral health standards of care and regulatory issues as well as the financial environment of health care especially behavioral health.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in respective state or multi-state license
- BSN or willingness to obtain
- Current BLS
- Current ACLS
- 5 years’ experience in High Acuity Units, Emergency Room or ICU/CCU setting
- 2 years’ experience in a medical detox setting
- 3 years of clinical management/supervisory experience (Manager level or above)
- Strong skills in People leadership, including hiring/terminations, team building/leading, and ability to jump in where needed in any role on the team
- Experience in fiscal responsibility of a clinical unit
Compensation: $100K - $115K, Exempt position
Physical Demands: This position may require duties including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling more than 100 pounds, as well as frequent standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching. Good visual and auditory acuity as well as good manual dexterity and the ability to be readily understood are essential. Applicants must be able to work in a stressful environment. CNAs may be exposed to biohazards and chemicals as outlined in the Infection Control, Safety, and MSDS Manuals and to other hazards.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
