Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible to set up and operate various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases as ordered by physicians. As a member of the patient focused care team, the respiratory therapist works collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care. In addition, the respiratory therapist performs a range of technical procedures related to cardiopulmonary hemodynamics to comprehensively serve patient needs. Assumes leadership role for Respiratory Department. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

  • You will assess patient appropriately, interpret results accurately, and suggest alternative treatment. You will appropriately change modes of therapy.
  • You will communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and co-workers.
  • You will document by exception and communicates to physicians and nurses all pertinent information.
  • You will involve patient and significant others in the care activities as a means of informing and teaching.
  • You will actively assist the physicians in the clinical management of patients.
  • You will administer medications according to hospital policy.
  • You will demonstrate knowledge and ability to use necessary patient equipment.
  • You will demonstrate ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
  • You will perform Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Document required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.
  • You will assist in the overall operation of the hospital through active participation in projects aimed at achieving the hospital’s mission, and incorporates the values of the hospital in day-to-day activities.
  • You will assist in the selection of equipment, supplies and goods for the running of the hospital and the care of patients within the goals of quality and cost efficiency.
  • You will communicate with staff and physicians on administrative issues and follows-up on issues until closure.
  • You will fiscally manage within budget.
  • You will be responsible for adequate numbers of staff on a daily basis.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP)
  • Associate Degree
  • 3+ years as respiratory technician

  • 3+ years of acute care experience
