This individual will support and advance the international mission and strategic goals of Ball State University, as well as promote and help manage study abroad programs, international exchanges, and other activities.

Position Function
Oversee the leadership, management and operation of the Study Abroad Programs for Ball State, which includes facilitation of student participation into BSU and non-BSU programs; support to faculty on preparation, budget development, risk management, and implementation of study abroad programs; . Work with Colleges and departments in the recruitment of faculty and students for Study Abroad Programs.

Minimum Education
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience
At least five years of professional experience working with international education; at least three years of supervisory experience.

Minimum Other
Understanding of transfer credit, academic and financial policies governing study abroad programs and student advising. Experience living, studying, working or traveling abroad. Knowledge of international education programs. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills. Ability to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment and sensitivity to cultural differences.

Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience
Six years of supervisory experience. At least three years experience in a study abroad leadership position. Experience as the primary point of contact for emergency situations during study abroad programs, during the execution of crisis management and campus protocols.

Preferred Other
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Budgetary and financial management skills. Ability to learn, use, and optimize a variety of computer software and database programs. Experience with Terra Dotta is a plus.

Job Duty
Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and the Executive Director for Global Affairs to advance the internationalization efforts of the University. Oversee the operation of the Study Abroad office which includes student participation into BSU programs, multi-lateral programs and bi-lateral programs as well as counseling and orientation of students for study abroad; the academic evaluation of students’ accomplishments upon their return, and liaising with various international study consortia, departments, and relevant offices on campus.

As a member of the RCGA leadership team, assist the Executive Director and the VPAA office in creating and leading innovative global initiatives that are aligned with BSU’s strategic plan a well as with best practices in field. Help coordinate international initiatives related to Study Abroad, faculy-led programs, virtual exchange programs, study away, etc.

Facilitate and coordinate with program directors, deans, department chairs and field studies directors in outreach programs and partnerships, as well as global community and outreach programs; support and advise students on the financial and academic responsibilities of international education. Assist with recruitment.

Advise interested BSU faculty and their chairs on all phases and aspects of conducting international field studies by organizing workshops relating to planning; meet with potential field leaders and assist with budgetary issues as well as other procedural matters; provide and update procedural materials

Work with the Executive Director to monitor the international/global component of the general studies program; work with colleges and departments to develop international study opportunities and curriculum that integrate with and strengthen the academic programs. Collaborate with faculty to enhance the internationalization of academic programs.
