PPPL’s Engineering Analysis Group is a multidisciplinary team focused on developing loads and evaluating the engineering designs for and advancing the state-of-the-art for magnetic confinement plasma physics research devices around the world. We specialize in high-field magnets, diagnostics, and plasma facing components for nuclear fusion experiments at PPPL and collaborator facilities world-wide. We are seeking an Engineering Analyst to fill an open need on our team.
Responsibilities:
Core Duties:

The Engineering Analyst will be considered a subject matter expert on the functional area of assignments. This position is considered a project engineer and will include focus on the following areas:
  • FEA of high vacuum components and systems, high heat flux components, coupled electro-mechanical systems in high EM flux environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSYS, ANSYS Fluent or CFX ANSYS workbench or another of the commercial Multiphysics simulation codes like COMSOL, NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
  • Interface with CAD software that allows modest modification of models and interface with meshing tools is desirable.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, in performance of their evaluation.
  • Will be working on several high visibility projects and will need to assure competence as a fully established professional, someone who has successfully completed projects.
  • Will be a team member of the PPPL Engineering Analysis Group (matrix) and will be assigned to work on various fusion projects and experiments at PPPL such as NSTX National Spherical Torus Experiment, ITER International Thermonuclear Reactor, and other highly visible projects at the Lab.
  • May lead or direct professionals or support staff members on specific projects or assignments.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional, technical experience, > 8 years (inclusive of post-BS academic experience), preferably in a scientific or R&D environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Technical competence in mechanical engineering analysis.
  • Fluency with 3D modelling/CAD and development.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of researchers, engineers, and technicians.
Physical Requirements:
  • This position will be on-site and an in an office environment.
