We are seeking mid-level Controls IT Technician. The IT Controls Technician will support the sustainment of an enterprise building control system with the goal of tracking and optimizing the energy performance of geographically distributed facilities. The position is a “hybrid” work environment with 2-3 days in the office. The applicant will be located near sponsor offices at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; or Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The Controls IT Technician will work closely with Sustainment Coordinator to ensure control system continuous operation to maintain all security and compliance with rules.

Responsibilities:

At PNNL, a technician conducts research and development activities including standard technical procedures that range from routine to specialized, under technical supervision.


Specific duties of the Controls IT Technician include:
  • Serve as the secondary sustainment point-of-contact to ensure the system is fully in compliance with sponsor network rules and is fully supported.
  • Support remote or on-site troubleshooting and provide fixes as required to integration issues including, locked local control systems, failed integration controllers, and other issues that may arise.
  • Serve as backup Niagara Administrator. Work closely with the Sustainment Coordinator to ensure Niagara database is regularly backed up and periodically archived for long term storage. Manage user access and passwords for staff accessing the system.
  • Provide remote or on-site troubleshooting for connectivity problems, IP address issues, and network issues for all users and components.
  • Assist stakeholders obtain IP address when adding hardware to the system.
  • Assist the Technical Team to track optimization measures and ensure they are implemented.
  • Responsible for sustaining the Integration Controllers (JACEs) to plan and execute software patches as required and plan for life-cycle replacement of JACE components.
  • Assist to troubleshoot meters that are off-line and work with the team to plan a future transition of metering resources to the controls platform.
  • Manage the integration of new components into existing architecture and provide technical analysis.
  • Apply systems engineering skills in the analysis of requirements, systems, applications, technology assessments and systems migrations and integration.
Specific performance expectations include:
  • Provides practical solutions to a wide range of problems. Develops specifications for project implementation and verifies that the final product meets expectations and requirements.
  • Recognized as a technical authority and takes on assignments covering a wide range of scope and requiring deep technical knowledge. Reports progress appropriately to EBCS Sustainment Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED and 6 years of relevant experience -OR-
  • Technical Institute Graduate (TIG)/relevant AA degree or higher and 4 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with integrating multiple network management systems.
  • Experience working with Government / Contracting networks and application.
  • Familiarity with security rules and procedures put in place by the Army Reserve G6.
  • Background in energy management control systems with Niagara N4 experience and certification.
  • Expert skills required in research and communication of industry standards related to DOD technology infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience working with virtual servers and Remote Desktop.
  • Must have experience using energy management control system to control HVAC and other building equipment.
  • SQL 2016 relational database servers, application, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform facility walk-throughs, inspect equipment in mechanical rooms, lift and carry light equipment, and occasional work in unheated/cooled spaces.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of time.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security security clearance.

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.
Testing Designated Position (TDP):
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
