What you will be doing

We are currently seeking a Disaster Recovery Engineer. In this role you will provide DR test functionality & feasibility evaluation, scheduling, coordination, and post-test validation services to internal customers related to a customer's disaster recovery (DR) design, planning, implementation, and yearly testing.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Guide teams on DR requirements, such as DR plans and DR tests, as defined in the IT Disaster Recovery Policy
  • Facilitate DR testing for customers, including validation, escalation, and reporting of results from tests
  • Oversee Disaster Recovery Plans, document preparedness status and reports to management and track status of any agreed remediation items to closure
  • Develops and plans testing activities for IT business resumption plans \ Document DR and testing procedures thoroughly and concisely.
  • Perform assessment activities, including collecting evidence, meeting with SMEs, reviewing policies and procedures, and validation of any identified issues.
  • Coordinate communication with internal, customer, and vendor resources and facilitate escalations of issues as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot difficult problems or problems where no existing guidance is provided and recommend appropriate actions. Enlist vendor aid when needed.
  • Identify and analyze the gaps in current DR plans
  • Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
  • Root Cause Analysis - when required (RCA)
  • After Action Reports (AAR)
  • Inspire use of automation products to increase availability and improve business resiliency across the Enterprise.
  • Develop strong relationships with business and technology leaders and other business continuity and disaster recovery stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to both planning and incident response activities.
  • Ensure DR program continues to meet Compliance certification requirements and remains viable to facilitate an enterprise recovery from a business disruption
  • Build out efficient and scalable templates, systems, processes, and program metrics as required
  • Assist with other activities as required to develop and maintain the Resiliency Program.
  • Develop relationships between dependent parties to narrow the DR gaps, Infrastructure, application (business and technical) and operations
  • Perform risk analysis to identify points of vulnerability and recommend disaster avoidance and reduction
  • Participate in Technology projects as a Subject Matter Expert for Disaster Recovery
  • Analyzing critical functions and defining the scope and impact of disaster scenarios • Respond to Internal Audit Requests
  • Assist the Incident Management Team to coordinate the execution of the disaster recovery plan(s) when a business or IT disruption occurs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in DR or business continuity related work
  • Previous working experience with Public Cloud services for at least 3 years (Azure and/or GCP)
  • Strong familiarity with Azure services relevant to DR/HA and resilient architectures, including Azure Site Recovery, Load Balancers, Autoscaling
  • Understanding of Cloud Regions and Availability Zone concepts, including relationship of various services to AZ's and Regions.
  • Knowledge in SaaS and/or cloud computing; a working knowledge of cloud providers (specifically Azure and GCP)
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of business continuity and disaster recovery planning techniques, technologies and best practices, methods used in performing risk analyses and business impact analyses, as well as Cloud DR capabilities
  • Familiarity with various networking services and technologies, including Express Routes, Transit Gateways, routing services, VPCs, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication at all levels, both internal within team and external with customers, internal & external auditors, etc.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Effective presentation skills used to influence decisions of leaders.
  • Ability to communicate and participate in technical meetings with all core roles (e.g. DBAs, Architects, Engineers, DevOps, etc)
  • Able to actively influence and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders to solve problems and ensure services are utilized effectively and efficiently.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills to effectively influence recommendations and decision-making, assess impacts, compare solutions, problem solve, and achieve business and/or technical objectives.
  • Able to act as a change agent, leads and welcomes innovative ideas and drives continuous improvement and service optimization.
