Position Summary: This position will coordinate W. M. Barr’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) program, working cooperatively with EHSQ staff and other aspects of the organization to maintain and continuously improve regulatory compliance. Work is performed under the general direction of the EHS Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordinate safety and health programs including medical surveillance, industrial hygiene monitoring, process safety management, hazard communication, site security, and hazard assessments.
- Coordinate and maintain the incident reporting program, ensuring thorough and complete investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate environmental programs involving hazardous waste management, stormwater pollution prevention, process wastewater management, risk management, SPCC, recycling, air pollution control.
- Promote company outreach by maintaining a leadership role in a local EHSQ association.
- Coordinate and maintain regulatory recordkeeping and reporting requirements including OSHA logs, incident and accident investigation, employee training, wastewater monitoring, Tier 2, TRI, hazardous waste generator, workers comp, air emissions.
- Coordinate and assist the EHSQ Department with the development and successful achievement of EHSQ goals.
- Support maintenance and engineering with EHSQ aspects of project management and lead EHSQ projects.
- Provide cost effective EHSQ solutions and ensure accurate and timely accounting of company expenditures.
- Support development of EHSQ capital and expense budget.
- Develop, maintain, and implement EHSQ policies and procedures.
- Provide training, mentoring, and coaching in all areas of EHSQ compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory permits including air pollution control, wastewater discharge, and stormwater.
- Coordinate EHSQ training program including DOT
- Assist Operations and Quality with inventory control.
- Maintain working knowledge of current and future laws and regulations, understand how they apply to Barr’s operations and facilitate timely implementation.
- Coordinate internal EHSQ audit program.
- Provide risk assessment for new or modified products and processes.
- May perform other duties or special projects are required by manager.
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, (Masters preferred), in Safety Science, Engineering, or related industrial hygiene discipline and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in chemical manufacturing operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; working knowledge of EHS regulations applicable to chemical manufacturers is also required; TWIC Card required; experience in ISO 9000 and lean manufacturing a plus.
Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the W. M. Barr organization; ability to establish and implement new processes; working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, charts and graphics. Some overtime may be required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
- Typical office and warehouse environment with moderate noise level.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, hear, and see for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Some travel may be required.
