Work with us! We’re looking for experienced and qualified Firewatch and General Laborers to join the Advanced Integrated Technologies (AIT) team!

Firewatch/General Laborer Job Description:

Perform tasks involving physical labor. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, measuring, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials. May assist other trade workers.

Although laborers are developing a skill, no building project could be completed without their work. They perform many tasks that require great physical strength. Laborers load and unload equipment, and carry materials to skilled workers.

Fire Watch/General Laborer Job Responsibilities:
Laborers engage in offering services such as manpower, where the application of physical force is in need, and are generally on construction sites, building facilities, warehouses, and shipyards. Responsibilities include being in charge of preparing and restoring construction/ship repair sites, maintaining the smooth flow of machinery, handling most of the hand tools, assembling scaffoldings, restoring/cleaning used tools, determining defects on sites.

After OSHA approved training, may also be asked to act as Fire Watch. Fire watch personnel maintain surveillance of areas where hot work — welding or cutting with torches — has occurred. Welding and cutting both cause sparks and bits of molten metal to fly into the surrounding area. The fire watch maintains a lookout for small fires started by these sparks and bits of slag. Should a fire begin to develop or occur, they execute their primary duty of sounding the alarm and, if possible, attempt to control the fire.

Education and Skills: Graduate of high school, GED, trade school, or industrial school. Must be a fast learner, be resistant to changing weather conditions (continuous working), and have the willingness to work longer hours or even on weekends and on a graveyard shift.

Duties:

  • Minimum of 1 year of marine-related experience.
  • Performs a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, assisting various shipboard trades, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode.
  • May perform simple repairs on machinery or minor repairs to buildings.
  • Transports materials, tools, and equipment to and within work sites as required.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and equipment.

Qualified applicants must be able to work aboard ships, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces. Must be a U.S. citizen and be eligible for a government security clearance. Drug testing required before hiring.

Experience:

1-year experience in Auxiliary systems, including; HM&E system repair, installation, modification, and testing of Navy equipment or systems.
