The General Manager position fills an important leadership role for Optum Infusion Services, where we offer high-touch clinical management programs for patients living with high-cost chronic diseases and are focused on enhancing quality of life while reducing costs for clients - helping to engage patients and provide better health outcomes. As a General Manager you will be responsible for our Houston, TX infusion branch, providing leadership and operational guidance to a variety of professionals, including registered nurses, intake personnel, home infusion pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, patient care coordinators and support staff. This role requires someone who can succeed in influencing others and managing in a matrixed business environment. It requires the right blend of clinical experience, administrative experience, financial experience, and operational experience. You will be responsible for the overall quality of products and services provided, and tasked to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability within the operation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Managerial and leadership oversight of 5-10 direct reports and branch team of 30-40 employees.
  • Directly responsible for clinical & operational functions to ensure smooth daily operations and continuous improvement in patient care (including direct patient care as a clinician, where appropriate)
  • Creates, manages, coordinates, and executes all operational strategies and implements tactical plans for the branch that meet and exceed company expectations
  • Compliance with company policies, state and federal regulations for branch location, and accreditation body requirements, including Board of Pharmacy, Home Health Agency, ACHC, NABP, URAC, product safety and clinical care delivery.
  • Oversees reporting, monitoring, and performance to branch operating metrics
  • Managing branch operating culture, productivity, and SG&A related operating expenses
  • Provides guidance and leadership through direct and indirect management of Pharmacy, Intake, and Nursing as a cohesive process of patient care
  • Partners with business peers to achieve and surpass profitability, cash flow, business goals, and objectives
  • Represents the organization with all referral sources, physicians, and the community on an as-needed basis in conjunction with other internal clinical and Sales resources
  • Communicates as needed with appropriate corporate leadership concerning new developments and/or problems within the local branch and/or market
  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, development, and performance management of employees
  • In partnership with Regional VP Operations, directs short-term and long-range planning and budget development for the branch to support strategic business goals
  • Participates in business development activities to support development of functional, efficient, and patient-oriented programs for the branch

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or higher
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • 3+ years of experience in the home infusion business or related business (DME, Home Health, Clinical Healthcare Services, Pharmacy delivery, etc.)
  • Solid working experience in pharmacy, nursing, budgeting, sales, business development, and strategic planning in healthcare
  • Experience with leadership practices of being customer centric, cultivating team engagement, facilitating execution plans, creating high-performing teams, communicating enterprise purpose, managing team structures, operations and processes, resilience and resourcefulness, and managing team boundaries
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency working with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proven excellent communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Permanent residence within a commutable distance to Houston, Texas


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MHA, PharmD, BS in Pharmacy, BS in Nursing, or other clinical degree
  • Track record of performance excellence meeting targets and objectives; the ability to manage multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes
  • Proven history managing dynamic culture and operational transformation
  • Proven solid patient service orientation
  • Proven possess a passion for and commitment to a consumer and client driven culture
  • Proven respectful and outstanding leadership skills that motivates staff to exceed expectations
  • Proven ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies
  • Proven ability to articulate a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals
  • Proven ability to lead a proactive clinical & sales organization and ensure accountability for results that maximize contribution to business objectives
