The Graphic Packaging International Portland plant is an international supplier of flexible food packaging structures. The plant core processes are continuous web including multi-color flexo-printing, extrusion coating, and water-based coatings. Finished products are in roll form and to support this we have a department of finishing equipment dedicated to convert large internal rolls to final customer specifications.
Position Summary:
The Graphics Specialist provides a continuous flow of production materials and digital files to printing plants. They maintain databases for inks, job tracking, asset management, digital production. Interact, resolve issues, and maintain communications among plants. And provide support to customers for design and production related activities, as well as point-of-contact resources and coordination for suppliers and vendors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Artwork/Prepress
- Coordinate with CA when inbound SKU is on horizon
- Intake review of new graphics to verify in-gamut (we can print it)
- Collaborate with graphics provider re print issues
- Manage corrections to graphics where needed
- Manage separations
- Collaborate with planners and platemaker regarding Step/Repeat
- Coordinate with GPS in Clemson for STATs
- Communicate to platemaker needs
- Create IGD and maintain all critical print-related info (flows to shopfloor)
- Maintain Graphic Request info
- Tracking and billing info
- Drawdowns management (this is a change from current SOP)
- Maintain Ink Database in ZGD0 (IGD)
- New ink item creation (in collaboration with material master Jeff or David)
- Collaborate with our prepress to maintain internal approved ink drawdown library
- Maintain Sleeve Database (in coordination with prepress foreperson)
- Maintain Prepress Resources Spreadsheet
- Cycle Count of gears, sleeves, and cylinders per print center
- Maintain Approved For Type Copy Library
- This is a change from current role alignment (currently done by a prepress associate) but is a revert to ancient times when graphics coordinator maintained
- Maintain graphic art library
- Provide onsite graphics services (signage, special functions)
- 1-off creative services for R&D/Xorders
Basic skills needed for graphics personnel:
- Computer skills; Mac, Windows, file management, email, Microsoft Office.
- Graphics arts software: Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop.
- ERP software skills (SAP).
- Thorough understanding of the printing process: CMYK, special ink colors, trapping, ink rotation, blankets, etc.
- Ability to interpret and understand CAD and vinyl drawings.
