Title: Head of Commerce

Position Overview
The Arena Group is seeking a Head of Commerce to build and lead the Commerce team. The Head of Commerce will develop and execute the strategy to grow the commerce business across our portfolio of brands, including Sports Illustrated, The Street, and Parade. The ideal candidate will have a track record of accelerating a commerce-driven business within a media company; experience collaborating across departments to achieve shared goals; and a drive to build a best-in-class commerce operation within a tech-powered media company.
The Arena Group's expected annualized base salary range for this position is currently $150,000-$250,000. Actual salaries will vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to location, education, experience and other factors permitted by law. The listed salary range is but one component of The Arena Group's total compensation and benefits available to its employees.
Responsibilities
- Hire the core team of strategists, editors, and producers to scale commerce content output across the organization.
- Oversee the Editorial and Growth Commerce teams, with the goal of developing trustworthy product and service recommendations across categories and brands.
- Develop and continually refine the commerce "playbook" for evergreen and trending news content streams.
- Work with Sales and Marketing to create and execute affiliate sponsorship opportunities.
- Create processes for identifying winnable commerce opportunities at scale and across brands.
- Refine insights feedback loops for commerce strategists and editors to produce high-performing content more efficiently.
- Work with the Business Development team to identify, assess, and implement strategic partnerships in the commerce space.
- Partner with editorial brand leads to define workflow and editorial calendars for commerce content publishing.
- Work with Product to develop a roadmap of enhancements and investments.
- Lead strategy and ownership of P&L for commerce channel across a broad portfolio of brands.
- Set the annual and quarterly channel strategy, define OKRs, and lead the team in the execution of these plans.
- Work with Audience Development teams to deliver and execute on a social media (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) strategy for commerce opportunities.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and collaborative team culture.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in a commerce media operation
- Track record of building and managing successful commerce teams
- Experience developing reporting dashboards and analyzing data to inform a commerce content strategy
- Experience building successful strategic partnerships leveraging an editorial media brand.
- Deep familiarity with evergreen SEO content strategy
- Experience in a quick news cycle environment
- Well-versed in analytical & research tools such as Google Analytics, ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Search Console, etc.
- Excellent communication, organization, leadership and time management skills.
- Outgoing and collaborative personality with the ability to develop strong relationships.
- Bachelor's Degree in journalism or related field
