Job description
Safely Home School is a Specialized Education Program for children who have been identified as having an educational handicap or are presenting home, school, or community behavior problems. The school’s primary focus is the remediation of aggression by addressing problems both therapeutically and behaviorally. Pro-social skills are taught and modeled to develop alternative behavior patterns that are more conducive to family and community participation. The teacher/student ratio is 1:5 to preserve the necessity for individualized behavior programs with the students. The school recruits and admits students of any race, color, gender, or ethnic origin to all its rights, privileges, programs, and activities.
Qualifications: It is preferred that applicate for this position to have a State of Ohio Teaching License. It is preferred that the applicate should have some experience with direct care and supervision of children in and out of a home setting. The applicate must have the ability to assess, address and develop alternatives for the client’s difficulties as they arise.
Responsibilities: This position is integral to the therapeutic milieu at Safely Home. The intervention specialist will be the main catalyst in blending the student’s Individual Service Plan (ISP) with his Individual Education Plan (IEP).
The responsibility of the Intervention Specialist includes, but are not limited to:

Professional:
· A combination of education, training, and / or experience in working with emotionally and behaviorally dysfunctional children
· Advanced knowledge of educational principles including planning, teaching, assessment, current research trends, and student testing
· Advanced knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, criminology and behavior theory
· Ability to clearly communicate methods and rationale for what they do in treatment with children
· An interest in the continual development of skills in working with disturbed children
Overall Client Safety and Care:
· Protect children from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment
· Properly handle emergency situations such as injury, run away and acting out situations
· Instruct children in socially acceptable alternatives to negative and destructive behavior
· Teach and role model pro-social, mediation and self-management skills
· Plan and organize activities to optimize treatment program
Responsibilities to Individual Clients and to the Group:
· Ensuring adequate privacy and confidentiality for the clients
· Development of trusting, positive relationships among children and staff in the facility
· Sensitivity to the racial, cultural and developmental backgrounds of individual clients and the group as a whole
· Stay current and accurate with all written responsibilities of the job to assure appropriate licensure and documentation for the client and their family
· All other duties assigned
The Intervention Specialist reports directly to the School Director and/or President / CEO. However, this position will also need to report to other administrators with the Agency when reviewing clients, future growth plans, and curriculum for the various programs (both current and not yet designed) with the scope of services offered through Safely Home.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $31,000.00 - $36,000.00 per year
