Job Title: Junior Accountant - Accounts Receivable

Reports to: Sr. Accountant

Location: Bronx, NY

Job Classification: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hourly Rate Range: $23.00 to $25.00

10M Not for Profit organization seeks qualified individuals for its finance department. The candidate must possess knowledge and experience in processing accurate and timely A/R billing, collection, reporting, and posting to General Ledger. Preferable experience with Medicaid and third-party billing.

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Process weekly billing to Medicaid and third parties for programs funded and regulated by the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Such programs include Day-habilitation, Community habilitation, and Residential facilities.
  • Verify Medicaid eligibility status for billing purposes every month.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles related to A/R and A/P. Able to accurately allocate and post revenue to proper programs based on the corresponding chart of accounts.
  • Maintain with accuracy the Finance Test schedule (s) reflecting the days of service (known as units of service) to individuals segregated by the program. In addition, maintain constant contact with Program Directors to verify the accuracy of units of service delivered and, in turn, the accuracy of weekly Medicaid billing.
  • Prepare appropriate journal, A/R aging and open bills reports, and other reports as needed for approval by the Controller.
  • Work closely with the Program Directors to respond to and resolve requests from funding agencies and outside independent auditors.
  • Process weekly Medicaid billings through the EPACES billing system.
  • Process Managed Care (third-party) billings in the PHP system. Maintain communications with Mange Care providers needed.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations A/R tied to the Finance Test schedule.
  • Follow up and resolve all Medicaid claims under pending or denied status in communication with the Program Director or assignee on a billing cycle (weekly) basis.
  • Work with program staff to share information and changes in regulations and take a leadership position to convey the importance of reporting accurate and timely units of service units that will be the basis for accurate subsequent Medicaid and Mange Care billings.
  • Prepare necessary schedules for annual audits as required by the position and Controller.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned occasionally as required.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 2-3 years of experience in a similar position. Recent graduates a plus.
  • Experience with Non-Profit organizations funded by Medicaid, Managed Care, and OPWDD programs.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.

We provide training in applying their induvial skills to a traditional work setting and daily living. Since then, Daybreak has expanded its mission to multiple locations. At present, we have four independent living facilities known as Individual Residential Alternative (IRA) operating 24/7, four-day training facilities known as Day-Habilitation Programs, and providing services in the individual’s private residence or Community Habilitation program. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
