Job description
Serves as laboratory liaison for an extensive variety of customers receiving services from Clinton Memorial Hospital; Must demonstrate resourcefulness and teamwork; Hold a comprehensive knowledge of hospital services; Proper labeling, aliquoting, packaging and tracking of specimens through the laboratory system; Dispatch specimens to the appropriate laboratory departments and referral laboratory; Make and receive telephone calls to/from customers of Clinton Memorial Hospital to provide diagnostic laboratory services, gather necessary data for service and billing, answer questions and resolve issues; Complete paperwork to meet compliance guidelines set by OIG which include the accurate interpretation and transcription of physician orders; LIS/HIS order entry.
Education / Experience Qualifications:
Minimum education: High School Degree/GED
Preferred experience: 1-2 years
Specialized Knowledge: Laboratory terminology, specimen handling, data entry, windows software, HIS/LIS
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as laboratory liaison for an extensive variety of customers receiving services from Clinton Memorial Hospital
- Must demonstrate resourcefulness and teamwork
- Hold a comprehensive knowledge of hospital services
- Make and receive telephone calls to/from customers of Clinton Memorial to provide diagnostic laboratory services including problem resolution and follow-up
- Receives visitors to the lab, ascertains their needs and directs them accordingly
- Registers outreach specimen accounts as required
- Completes order entry, phlebotomy collection, specimen receipt, and test result query into the laboratory information system
- Performs proper labeling, aliquoting, packaging and tracking of specimens throughout the laboratory system
- Dispatches specimens to the appropriate laboratory departments and referral laboratory
- Contacts physicians or physician offices to gather necessary data for service and billing i.e., Medicare patient laboratory test orders for medical necessity
- Complete paperwork to meet compliance guidelines set by OIG which include the accurate interpretation and transcription of physician orders.
- Distributes test results to physician offices, medical records, or hospital units according to procedure
- Receives and distributes incoming departmental mail
- Maintains the physician standing order file
- Phones and/or faxes reports on the LIS call list (STAT, urgent, and abnormal results) to physicians’ offices, nursing stations, or agencies according to protocol
- Orders supplies for Laboratory work area, physicians’ offices, and nursing homes
- Performs job responsibilities in a manner consistent with the customer service goals and objectives of the department and hospital
- Performs all other related duties as requested or required by the Director of Laboratory Services
