Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a team manager to lead a team of machine learning data linguists working on text annotation, data collection and data analysis. You will apply your management and analytic skills to help develop a team of language professionals. You will ensure the delivery of the high-quality language data needed to train innovative models in Machine Learning.
The successful candidate must have experience managing a team and a background in linguistics or localization, experience with language analysis, and a passion for efficiency and accuracy.
The position may be remote, with a preference for Santa Clara, Seattle, or New York City. We work in distributed teams, and strengthen our connections by traveling approximately five days per quarter for in person meetings.
Key job responsibilities
- Hire and manage a team of data associates, analysts, or linguists
- Ensure on-time delivery of team projects
- Evaluate and interpret team metrics to ensure high quality of data annotations and provide feedback to annotators
- Generate reports related to team performance, goals, project status, and others when required
- Streamline and refine processes to drive continuous improvement
- Provide mentorship in annotation best practices and working with data for Natural Language Processing
- Provide coaching on performance by providing feedback in one-on-one meetings
- Facilitate and conduct team meetings
The AI Data Team at AWS is responsible for delivering high-quality annotated data and a variety of language artifacts to ensure the best performance of different AWS machine-learning language services. These ML-based language services enable customers to readily add intelligence to their business operations and AI applications to drive positive outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Proficient in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, or another foreign language
- Experience with data visualization and presentation tools (Excel, Tableau, etc)
- Familiarity with json, yaml, xml or other forms of text markup
- Ability to work in different operating systems (Windows, MacOS, or Linux)
- Ability to navigate a Unix terminal and use common command line tools
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, collaborative work environment
- Passion for human language technology and AI
