Responsible for assisting the Main Street Director in creating and maintaining Downtown Denison as a vibrant, active, and business-friendly area. Work will include all aspects of the City’s Main Street Program including Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization, with a special emphasis on business development.

  • Support, promote and communicate with downtown business owners.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute special events that will bring people and business to Downtown Denison.
  • Maintain the business and property inventory and related databases.
  • Update and post items of interest on website and social media products.
  • Assist Main Street Director as necessary.
  • Provide information to the public; receive and resolve or refer citizen and business owner feedback.
  • Support the Main Street Advisory Board and Historic Preservation Board through creating and maintaining agendas, preparing for meetings, and ensuring minutes are taken for meetings.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers for all committees and activities.
  • Organize and gather resources needed for various awards, grant applications, and presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Proficient with current Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, and internet computer applications.
  • Skill in analyzing complex administrative information and issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives and recommending methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues.
  • Ability to research and analyze detailed information and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to carry out department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to implement and evaluate projects and programs.
  • Ability to develop, interpret and implement regulations, policies, procedures, written instructions, general correspondence, and other department specific documents.
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the City.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
  • Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment and software.
  • Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in English in both written and verbal form.
  • Skill in researching and understanding complex written materials.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems and interpreting policies and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate detailed and often sensitive information effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours as needed.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study preferred with five (5) years responsible experience in performing related duties; or any combination of education and experience that results in proven ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment.
