Math Department Chair- 6th-12th Grade (Full Time)
Job description
We are the Fuchs Mizrachi School, a leading Modern Orthodox Jewish Day School located in
Beachwood, Ohio. Fuchs Mizrachi School is accepting applications for a full-time 6-12th Grade
Math Department Chair for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. Educating and inspiring
students from age two through twelfth grade, we are motivated by a real passion for deep,
meaningful learning, leadership and growth.
The Department Chair engages members of the math department in substantive conversation
about teaching and learning and serves as its instructional leader. The Department Chair will
partner with the High School Principal, Junior High Principal and the Dean of Academics and
Student Affairs in supporting the professional growth and development of department members,
including teacher feedback, will play a key role in articulating the department's learning
expectations to parents as well as new teachers and students, and will continue to teach math
course based on the needs of the 6th-12th grade team.
Areas of Responsibility
Curriculum
Guides the growth and development of a relevant, coherent and innovative curriculum,
including specific attention to incorporating deeper learning, rigorous and relevant
learning experiences into the math curriculum
Facilitates efforts to improve curricular coordination within the department
Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter
and educational pedagogy
Reviews annual course offerings and facilitates the development of new courses
Ensures that curricular review is embedded within the regular work of the department
Networks with others, both inside and outside of the independent school world, to remain
aware of the trends in the field and to stimulate growth and innovation in curriculum,
pedagogy, and assessment
Faculty
Works with the High School and Junior High Leadership Teams to determine appropriate
professional development activities for the department and its individual members
Observes classes and provides faculty with constructive feedback
Serves as an advisor to teachers in all matters pertaining to curriculum development,
effective pedagogy, and classroom management
Supports departmental faculty by leading weekly department meetings, participating in
faculty evaluation process, and managing daily needs of faculty within the department
Helps teachers develop ways to assess the effectiveness of their pedagogy and
curriculum
Actively works with other administrators to support the well-being of faculty
Students
Teaches students within 6th-12th grade, not to exceed 20 periods weekly
Seeks to understand, and to foster conversation about, the quality of students'
experiences with the curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment of the department
Guides the department in using student feedback to inform instructional and
curricular development, and to identify areas of professional growth
Administration
Reports to the JH and HS Principals
Maintains congruence between the school's philosophy statement and the department's
educational program
Ensures that department members consistently implement the school's educational
values, policies, and decisions
Serves as a spokesperson for the department's program
Meets regularly with Principals and other Department Heads on school policies and
issues
Determines, in consultation with the Principals, the short- and long-term staffing needs of
the department
Communicates with parents, as necessary, regarding student and teacher issues
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
5 + years of relevant teaching experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural competency
Dedication to the whole-person development of young people, including an enthusiasm
for positive identity development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Team player and growth-oriented individual who is humble, receptive to feedback and
looking for ways to continuously improve
Proficient computer skills with Google Drive and Microsoft Windows office products
