Job description

The Medical Records Coder is responsible for working across the professional fee organization; responsibilities include but are not limited to system edit review associated with clean claim submission collaborating with accounts receivable and other stakeholders. Assigns codes (ICD-diagnosis, CPT, HCPCS and modifiers) from appropriate coding classification system to assure the production of quality healthcare data and accurate professional payment. The coding function ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, and Federal and State regulations.

This position requires Certification in one of the following:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CPC-A) examination through American Academy of Professional Coders
  • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Accreditation examination for Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS, CCS-P)
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA®) preferred
