The Supervisor, Metrology/Facilities are geared toward calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments, maintenance and oversight of environmental chambers, and ensuring that the facility is operating in accordance with OSHA and other safety requirements. The Supervisor, Metrology/Facilities is also responsible for ordering supplies, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, training employees on laboratory equipment and facility-related issues, and participating in any plans for change or expansion.
Job Functions
- Oversee the Metrology team to ensure laboratory instruments are proper calibration and maintenance
- Provide assistance and support to the Purchasing Coordinator regarding facility supplies and equipment
- Coordinate and ensure compliance with a preventive maintenance program
- Oversee operation and maintenance of the facility to meet standards set by senior management and regulatory agencies
- Evaluate and address current and future facility needs of the site
- Monitor all areas for opportunities to improve in terms of both efficiency and cost reduction
- Coordinate and monitor the efforts of contracted facility services
- Oversee maintenance of the exterior of the building, including roof, parking lot, and exterior landscaping
- Supervise janitorial service to ensure that the interior of the facility (both laboratory and office space) is kept clean and in good condition
- Participate in the planning and implementation of any plans for facility change or expansion
- Coordinate the safe and proper storage of regular waste, hazardous waste, and biohazardous waste at the facility prior to disposal
- Coordinate regular waste, hazardous waste, and biohazardous waste disposal and recycling in full conformity with established guidelines (e.g. DOT)
- Play a lead role in the initial training of new employees in health and safety as well as facility-related issues (e.g. building security, entering and exiting procedures, facility alarm codes, and procedures, emergency exits, etc.)
- Play a lead role in the training of current staff in health and safety as well as facility-related issues as needed
- Ensure the site provides a safe working environment in accordance with state and federal requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related sciences
- 5+ years of experience with routine & advanced calibration, maintenance & troubleshooting techniques across a wide spectrum of scientific instruments in a regulated commercial lab environment
- 1+ years of supervisory and/or Team Lead experience
- Previous experience in laboratory facility construction and/or maintenance preferred
