Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Coordinator.

In this role, the successful candidate provides clinical leadership and coordination for a patient care population or program consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, departments of nursing, and clinical service; directs, prioritizes and coordinates patient care activities, quality and performance improvement initiatives, and development and education of staff.

Job Responsibilities:

      • Articulates and demonstrates understanding of all Joint Commission, Department of Health, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services standards pertinent to the Comprehensive Stroke Care Center.
      • Articulate and demonstrates understanding of nursing process, patient care standards interdisciplinary collaboration, quality and performance management, patient safety, continuum of care concepts, customer service, professional practice and healthy work environments.
      • Identifies needed data elements for abstraction. Uses established guidelines and protocols to measure and interpret data. Provides stroke team with recommendations for improvement. Conveys needs to Stroke Coordinator and clinical informatics team for system builds when needed.
      • Coordinates activities to promote compliance with all regulatory requirements.
      • Supports Stroke Coordinator as directed to maintain regulatory guidelines as it relates to New York State Department of Health and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Certification.
      • Assists with all necessary stroke education. Assists in coordinating major education programs and assists in maintaining required certifications.
      • Participates in development of presentation, reports and publications.
      • Participate as a member of various councils and other hospital committees as appropriate.
      • Facilitate the development and dissemination of nursing knowledge that supports coordinated, resource efficient quality outcomes.
      • In conjunction with Stroke program leadership, assist with the development and implementation of action plans in response to internal and external benchmarking based on data gathered.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, conduct data abstraction for all Stroke diagnosis discharge cases at NYULH.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, conduct chart audit for various specific and evolving programmatic requirements.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, perform Stroke Data entry into various databases, including Get with the Guidelines (GWTG).
      • Conduct stroke data analysis to ensure timely and routine feedback to various units and to respond to ad hoc requests.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, maintain and produce stroke scorecard for ED, Stroke Management and Stroke Steering Committee.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, track and compile data complications for:
        • Data relating to EMS stroke transports
        • Stroke mortalities
        • Complication and outcomes for NIR procedures, carotid artery stenting (CAS), carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA) and transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, act as a resource to NYU Langone Health providers to work on stroke-related performance improvement activities in various departments.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, be available to conduct stroke education in the community through public health fairs, private company health screenings, and EMS lectures.
      • In conjunction with Stroke Coordinators, assist in the provision of stroke education and awareness for providers in ancillary areas.
      • Other duties as assigned by Stroke Program leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:


To qualify you must have a Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York. Baccalaureate degree in nursing required. A minimum of four years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served; Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion which addresses patient/family satisfaction; Demonstrates the potential for leadership; demonstrates ability to develop, guide, motivate, nurture, and coach others; participates in service or departmental committees, staff and/or patient education programs. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving; Membership in pertinent professional organizations; Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.


Preferred Licenses:
Registered Nurse License-NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in public speaking and presentations
2. Demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and workflow implementation as a member of an interdisciplinary team
3. Demonstrated experience in heavy interactions with administrators, physicians, clinical staff, community members and patients
4. Membership in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations
5. Master's degree in Nursing or health-related area preferred
6. Certification in relevant practice area preferred

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $85,562.10 - $125,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
