Job Description
We are seeking an Operations Engineer to primarily be responsible for directing the shipboard IT officers in the day-to-day performance of their duties supporting the IT systems and infrastructure aboard. The Operations Engineer will assist the Manager, Shipboard Technology Operations in improving shipboard IT process, developing documentation, and creating policies and procedures to inform and guide the IT officers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides input and direction to the 10 shipboard IT officers in performing their duties, maintaining fleet standards, and dealing with requests for exceptions
- Ensures compliance with fleet standards
- Works with other IT support groups, application groups, and the IT officers to coordinate planned work in order to minimize impact to the ship’s operations
- Responds to shipboard incidents and assists the IT officers with resolution by ensuring that trouble tickets are complete and properly dispatched to the correct support group
- Engages other teams as necessary to ensure resolution within the SLA’s
- Evaluates IT officer performance and makes recommendations for promotions or disciplinary action
- Participates in the evaluation and hiring of new IT officers
- Provides on-site and remote supervision for IT projects during new-builds and dry-docks
- Conducts audits and inspections of shipboard installations as needed
- Provides relevant status reports to senior IT management and the business regarding shipboard projects, incidents, and problems
- Ensures planned testing activities are performed and all technical criteria are met for upgrades and deployments to the shipboard IT environment
- Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends improvements and changes
- Participates in the evaluation and testing of new technology and applications proposed for deployment in the shipboard environment
- Supports the Miami ship lab and assists other IT groups with hardware setup for testing
- Manages the testing schedule for the ship lab
- Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience providing level 1 and 2 support
- Experience as a shipboard IT officer is highly preferred
- Knowledge of Cisco networking hardware, routing and switching
- An understanding of TCP/IP, Syslog, SSH, Spanning Tree
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, VMWare, Dell Compellent
- Hands on experience with telecommunications networks (Internet protocols, routing, queuing, effects of delay and packet loss, etc.) is preferred
- Ability to work on multiple projects at a time, strong interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Must have excellent system level troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field
- 5 or more years as a shipboard IT Officer in the CCL fleet preferred
- Experienced in supporting installations, upgrades, and system integration efforts
- Technical expertise in computer and network services for both local and wide area networks
- Knowledge of Satellite RF sub-systems (Block Up Converters, LNBs, antennas) is helpful
- Knowledge of TCP/IP Networking protocols and standards, routing, multicast, testing of IP based Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices, applications and QoS

The range for this role’s base salary is $75,000 - $85,000. Offers to selected candidates will be made on a fair and equitable basis, taking into account specific job-related skills and experience.
