Key Responsibilities:

To perform corrective and preventive maintenance on the collection system, performing a variety of skilled and unskilled manual duties in the maintenance and care of the collection system including repair and other modifications to regulators, outfalls and manhole structures that may be required to insure proper operation; cleaning and inspecting all sewer lines, interpreting and documenting the results of inspections; and to perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties (not limited to):

  • Provide excellent customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, and responsive, fair, courteous and respectful, and to actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment.
  • Adheres to industry and Utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provides services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance, replacement, and repair of water mains, water service connections, fire hydrants, valves, and related appurtenances. Notifies customers of water service interruptions in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and locate difficulties in a variety of utility collection systems including disassembling and repairing pumps, valves, analyzers, feeders, gauges, and other related equipment.
  • Participate in the installation of utility collection systems.
  • Install pumps for use in lift stations; maintain and repair lift stations as necessary.
  • Perform routine tests; log results and maintain accurate records.
  • Lubricate parts and equipment; replace packing and bearings in pumps and motors; change motor oil.
  • Perform preventive maintenance functions on utility system equipment; identify equipment maintenance needs.
  • Take and compile reading data on lift stations; log and record data.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams for a variety of utility systems.
  • Perform general utility maintenance activities, routine utility collection system repair, cleaning, and painting activities.
  • Maintain records on work, time, and material records.
  • Operation of Back-hoe, Dump Truck, hydro-vacuum truck, pumps, motors, sewer cleaning equipment and closed circuit pipeline inspection vehicle.
  • Use of leak detection and locating devices, surveying, cleaning and repairing sewer mains.
  • Respond to emergencies; participates in the on-call rotation
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Basic Skills:

  • Perform routine installation, repair and maintenance activities of utility collection systems.
  • Learn to diagnose, disassemble, and repair routine utility collection system equipment.
  • Maintain a variety of maintenance and repair records.
  • Read and understand various manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: -- Walking or standing for extended periods of time -- Operating assigned equipment.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: --Making observations --Communicating with others --Reading and writing -- Operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Understanding and ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and control for wastewater systems
  • Knowledge of pump stations, and wastewater treatment plant components
  • Ability to understand and utilize spreadsheets
  • Ability to collect and present operational data
  • Experience with SCADA systems, a plus
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs

Qualifications:

  • One year experience in the operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and or Collection System.
  • This position requires you to have a valid AZ drivers license and to be able to drive a company vehicle without any restrictions.
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of physical exams, drug testing, criminal record checks, consumer credit report, motor vehicle, and employment records prior to starting employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a tanker endorsement within six months of appointment
  • Must possess ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collections Operator Certification or ability to obtain, a within six months of appointment.

Environmental Conditions: Most duties are performed under periodically unpleasant working conditions, working outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather, exposed to water, mud, dirt and grease; some positions may require more frequent exposure to disagreeable conditions including fumes, chemicals, infectious waste, equipment noise and vibration, heat, cold, and dampness. Incumbents are required to take stand-by duties that include being on call after hours and responding to emergency problems at any hour as needed.
