The Town of Telluride is hiring a Park Maintenance Tech I or II


The Park Maintenance Tech assists with a variety of entry-level to semi-skilled duties in the areas of general maintenance, landscaping, and equipment operation in the Town's parks, athletic fields, municipal building gardens, and grounds to provide safe, attractive, and well-maintained indoor and outdoor facilities for locals and visitors.

The Town is hiring a Park Maintenance Tech I or II depending on qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Park Maintenance Tech I

Maintenance

  • Keeps indoor facilities clean and orderly, performs janitorial and custodial tasks, trash removal
  • Performs general maintenance and painting tasks
  • Completes ice rink maintenance in the winter
  • Assists in ensuring a safe, clean park environment
  • Trash removal in various parks around the Town; picks up and removes litter, garbage, and/or recyclables

Landscaping

  • Mows, weeds, trims and renovates grass areas
  • Weeds, plants, and prunes planting beds in Town parks, along trails, and on municipal grounds

Equipment and Vehicle Operation

  • Ability to use or learn to use hand tools and light equipment, including riding mowers, line trimmers, push lawnmowers, sprayers

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, 6 months to 1 year of previous experience in maintenance, the ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification in 6 months, general knowledge of tools and equipment, and general knowledge of planting practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Knowledge of: basic landscaping and maintenance tasks, driving and operating an array of vehicles while executing safe driving practices, ability to learn safe handling of cleaning chemicals, occupational hazards, and safety practices applicable to custodial work and to operate janitorial equipment. ability to operate or learn to operate general hand and power tools, to handle and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment, and basic principles of customer service.

Skill in: Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to work collaboratively and independently on assigned tasks.

In addition to Park Maintenance Tech I essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintenance

  • Completes routine repairs, identifies and completes repairs as needed
  • Operates small power equipment such as saws drills, drain snakes, and other equipment related to building maintenance
  • Outdoor Park Facilities
    • Maintains and restocks dog waste bag dispensers
    • Installs and repairs park equipment including playground equipment, picnic tables, benches
    • Performs summer sports field maintenance including lining baseball fields, spray painting lines on soccer fields, and sod applications
    • Performs winter activities maintenance including Nordic track grooming, outdoor ice rink maintenance, plowing snow on Town Park parking lot and roadways

Landscaping

  • Mows, weeds, and renovates grass areas including aerating, fertilizing, dethatching, and top dressing
  • Assists with an annual flower purchase order

Safety

  • Inspects playgrounds, park amenities, and athletic fields for safety and compliance with Parks standards
  • Actively promotes a safety culture to prevent injuries ad illness by assisting park users and other staff on safety practices
  • Reports any unsafe equipment conditions to Parks Supervisor

Equipment and Vehicle Operation

  • Operates tractor with implements for summer and winter projects
  • Operates the Zamboni Ice Rink Resurfacter
  • Operates riding mowers and line trimmer

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, Valid driver's license, 1-2 years of experience in professional landscaping, custodial maintenance, sports field maintenance, working with tools and equipment, and safety principles are strongly preferred, First Aid and CPR certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Knowledge of: Parks processes and procedures including landscaping, plant species, best planting practices, irrigation, high-level carpentry, sports field maintenance, occupational hazards and safety practices applicable to custodial work, safe handling of chemicals, and principles and practices of safety/security reporting, highly proficient in hand and power tools, vehicle and equipment, and operation.

Skill in: Problem-solving under pressure, effective verbal and written communication, ability to work collaboratively and independently without supervision, effective time management skills to meet deadlines, and ability to train seasonal Park Aide staff.

Environmental Factors:

Work location varies and may be indoors or outdoors year-round. Work performed outdoors is in and around Town Park and other various parks around Town and is subject to high UV rays and extremely cold conditions in the winter. Work performed indoors is subject to confined spaces, heights, hazardous materials, blood-borne pathogens, and cleaning chemicals; the noise level in the work environment and during the use of equipment can be very loud.

Physical Factors:

Includes standing or walking a majority of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; working on irregular surfaces; ability to sustain heavy physical exertion; ability to perform in adverse weather conditions; ability to lift and carry 50lbs.

Salary Level I

Full-time year-round. FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Grade 10

Salary Range: minimum $39, 149- maximum $52,851

Hiring Range: $39,149 - $46,000


Salary Level II

Full-time year-round. FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Grade 20

Salary Range: minimum $43, 064- maximum $58, 136

Hiring Range: $43,063 - $58,136
