Job description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Parks Supervisor oversees all aspects of the daily custodial maintenance, landscaping, and maintenance operations of designated parklands areas within City limits. Manages staff within the areas of responsibility such as assigning schedules and duties. Assists with the upkeep and maintenance for cemetery grounds and recreation facilities. Receives instructions and technical advice from the Parks Superintendent and Parks & Recreation Director.

DIRECT REPORTS ASSIGNED: 5 Full-time, 6-8 Part-time or Seasonal employees
JOB LOCATION: Parks Facilities, 191 Soccer Field Rd, Glenwood Springs, CO
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CATEGORY: Full-Time
HOURS: 40 hours per week, weekend shift and evening coverage may be required for special events and snow removal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Monitors the overall cleanliness of areas that fall within the Parks including, fields, playgrounds and other areas as assigned that the Division is responsible for.
2. Completes, along with staff, routine maintenance duties including irrigation, turf management, sports field prep, backflow preventor inspection, restroom stocking, and other facility and landscaping general maintenance.
3. Maintains the Parks Asset inventory of the Asset Management System; assigns workorders to staff.
4. Performs annual park land evaluations, monthly playground inspections and actively participates in development planning processes.
5. Monitors and maintains the Parks maintenance budget, making informed recommendations for expenditures when necessary.
6. Oversees maintenance practices, and a variety of projects; evaluates alternatives, prepares specifications, and reviews documentation.
7. Plans City special events with other personnel from the Parks Department and prepares for Community Events and Festivals.
8. Monitors the maintenance and improvement projects for the White-Water Activity Area.
9. Assists with grounds maintenance of the Community Center and snow removal throughout the City.
10. Maintains CDOT ROW Maintenance Permit and any other permits that maintain sound operations.
11. Schedules staff to ensure that 7-day per week coverage is maintained to properly run the land areas and facilities.
12. Provides excellent, prompt customer service when responding to inquiries and representing the Parks department professionally at all levels, including internal and external stakeholders.
13. Participates in Project Planning and Management, willing to work on-call as needed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Necessary:
· An associate degree in Parks Maintenance, or another field and four years of relevant experience with at least one year being at a supervisory level; or a bachelor’s degree with two years of grounds maintenance experience and at least one year being at a supervisory level; or any similar combination of education and experience.
o Must have or ability to obtain within six months of appointment, a Colorado State Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's License or higher in the appropriately designated categories.
o Certified Playground Safety Inspector’s Certificate (CPSI) with 6 months of hire.
o ASSE Certified Backflow Preventer Tester or ability to obtain within 1styear of hire.
o Working knowledge of repair principles for irrigation systems.
o Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability obtain within 6 months of hire.
o Must possess computer skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as becoming proficient in the organizations financial and asset management programs.
Desired:
· Bilingual in Spanish.
· Experience using Tyler Munis.
· Experience with Asset Management Systems or VUEworks.
· Prior experience in a Recreation or Municipal setting.

Work is performed primarily outside requiring strenuous physical activity and constant exposure to temperature extremes, noise, odors, irritants, dirt, and dust.
