United Hospital Center is part of a broad, integrated network of doctors, hospitals, clinics, and specialized institutes across West Virginia, Southwestern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and Ohio. The new UHC opened in 2010. The 692,000-square-foot structure rises eight stories. It is designed around the environment with the patient, family, staff, and community in mind – which includes enhanced patient privacy, a high level of technology integration, and improved access to care. The acute care facility has 292 private inpatient rooms with a medical staff that consist of more than 381 physicians and extenders. Today, the WVU Health System, which operates under the brand “WVU Medicine,” has more than 20,000 employees; 2,815 providers; 22 member, managed, and affiliate hospitals; and more than 2.5 million patient visits annually.

POSITION SUMMARY : The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of patients, (including biological, social and psychological assessments). The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, participates in directing that care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinates follow-up/discharge planning (as applicable).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant required.

2.Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program required.

3.Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required.

4.Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or Board of Osteopathic Medicine in West Virginia.

5.BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but are not limited to.
