Summary

Little Apples in Hooksett is searching for a qualified teacher to join our preschool teaching team.
The Preschool Teacher:
  • is responsible for inspiring, supporting and caring for children ages 3 years to 4 years old
  • is responsible for creating and maintaining a comforting and respectful care environment and promoting optimal child development
  • must be able to respond to changing work environments and be a flexible team player.

Duties

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum
o Planning activities in accordance with curriculum objectives and developmentally appropriate practice
o Utilizing sign language, storytelling and singing to promote language development
o Meeting the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child
o Promoting self-help skills, social relationships, and sensory exploration
o Preparing weekly curriculum plans
o Completing ongoing assessment of children's development

Communication
o Reporting progress of children to parents in daily reports and through parent-teacher conferences
o Maintaining daily open communication with parents
o Maintaining confidentiality of children, families, and other staff
o Reporting any suspected abuse or neglect to Director and/or DCYF

Classroom Management & Interactions with Children
o Arranging a classroom environment conducive to early learning
o Maintaining visual contact of all children at all times
o Maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment
o Inspecting and replacing damaged or lost materials
o Supervising assistants in the classroom
o Keeping all appropriate records such as attendance records, accident reports, curriculum sheets, and other records as applicable
o Mediating conflict between students
o Tending to children's basic needs, including but not limited to feeding, diapering, etc.
o Modeling appropriate behaviors

Licensing and Center Responsibilities
o Attending in-service and staff meetings
o Maintaining 18 hours of professional development annually
o Including but not limited to:
  • A minimum of 6 hours in infant and toddler focused training
  • No less than 3 hours of Health & Safety Trainings, per NHCCLU
  • The NH Health & Safety Trainings on ProSolutions
o Meeting all licensing regulations as required through the NH Child Care Licensing Unit
o Achieving and maintaining a credential through the Early Childhood Professional Development System

Requirements

The Preschool Teacher must meet the following requirements:
Be at least 18 years old,
Have a high school diploma or equivalent, including but not limited to General Equivalency Diploma (GED), a High School Equivalency Test (HI SET), or a Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), and
Have one of the following options:
  • Written documentation from or on file with the department that she or he was qualified and employed as an associate teacher on or before November 6, 2017.
  • A minimum of 9 credits in related coursework, including at least one 3 credit course in child or human growth and development.
  • Current certification as para II educator by the department of education; or
  • A minimum of 1000 hours of supervised child care experience in a licensed child care program, and knowledge of child growth and development obtained through one of the following:
  • Completion of a high school level 2-year career and technical education course in teacher education.
  • A 3-credit college course in child or human growth and development.
  • Thirty hours of training in child growth and development, granted by an accredited college or university, an authorized provider of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training or obtained through documented life experience, including experience with the same age children the associate teacher supervises, such as a family child care provider, service as a foster parent, work as a school teacher, work as a camp counselor and experience as a group leader for children in sports or other activities, such as scouts or little league, or closely related experience.
