What You'll Do:
The Product Designer (Bags), Racquet Sports is responsible for creating Objects Of Desire - representing the intersection of Sport, Culture, and Technology in ownable design solutions that convey compelling and consistent visual design language while supporting the overall brand personality and position of Wilson Racquet Sports’ bag category. This individual contributor will work closely with Design Management and will collaborate with other designers, product developers, engineers and product team to develop holistic bag design solutions on prioritized projects. This individual will take work from initial concept through final development with intense emphasis on pattern and form design skills.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support front-end ‘design-led’ innovation representing Bag Design functions.
- Sketching for rapid visualization
- Solid understanding of materials and processes
- Excellent knowledge of soft goods construction
- Illustrations for product presentations
- Prototyping skills a plus
- Work closely with Developers and Product Line Managers to create successful concepts.
- Craft compelling design stories to ensure product value propositions are effectively communicated inside and outside the product engine process (product team, marketing, commercial meetings, technical team).
- Contribute to the visual design language for Wilson Racquet Sports bags.
- Develop tech packs and communicate product concepts within the company to Asia-based manufacturers.
- Create inspiration / trend / color / material development boards for new line development.
- Research, analyze and monitor competitive products, industry trends and external consumer product trends to capitalize on market opportunities.
- Ensure execution of product design is aligned to consumer visual identity and fits within our business objectives for the product range.
- Build critical relationships and leverage expertise and capabilities from inside and outside Wilson to deliver results and create value.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in product/creative design of consumer products, or a related area, preferably in sporting goods or consumer goods.This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion or Industrial Design. Graphic Design experience is a plus.
Additional qualifications should include:
Experience working across a variety of mediums in the design and production of softgoods.- Ability to quickly synthesize current market, fashion, material and performance trends into design strategy and solutions
- Demonstrated ability to pitch design ideas, with confidence, to design and product colleagues
- Strong sense of pattern development, 3D form and it’s emotive potential
- Strong knowledge of the Color, Finish, Material (CMF) production processes for softgoods.
- Experienced in producing softgodos spec packs and technical drawings
- Strong 2D Skills: Strong hand sketching and Illustrator skills with ability to create designs quickly, working in and out of software tools
- Ability to synthesize design-inspired consumer insights through connections with athletes, and directions for Project Briefs
- Strong multi-tasking capabilities and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment that embraces change and value creation
- Hands on approach and entrepreneurial attitude
- 2D – Strong proficientency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Softgoods CAD skills a plus
- Expertise in KeyShot, other similar rendering software experience a plusKnowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally
- Demonstrated passion for design, empathy of your end user, and connection to your inner athlete.
