Job Description

Signature Solar is looking for an experienced electrical test engineer or technician to safely and accurately perform a variety of electrical and spec verification, incoming inspection, system and component product testing, troubleshooting, product launch testing/verification support, maintenance and on-site repair of PC boards for low and medium voltage Solar inverters, batteries, battery chargers and batteries.


A successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Instrument transformer, electro-mechanical, and solid-state relay testing
  • Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning solar equipment, and apparatus
  • Repairing inverter and rectifier boards, as well as electronic circuitry
  • Inspecting and testing equipment and circuits to identify malfunctions or defects (using wiring diagrams and testing devices such as ohm meters, volt meters, or amp meters)
  • Consulting manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering personnel in order to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and to determine optimum equipment functioning.
  • Analyzing test data in order to diagnose malfunctions, to determine performance characteristics of systems, and to evaluate effects of system modifications.
  • Opening and closing switches to isolate defective relays; then perform adjustments or repairs.
  • Preparing and maintaining records detailing tests, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Testing insulators and bushings of equipment by inducing voltage across insulation, testing current, and calculating insulation loss.
  • Running signal quality and connectivity tests for individual cables, and recording the results.

  • Generating plans and procedures for EEE part/component procurement and screening to meet company standards and contractual requirements. Support supply source selection and procurement efforts. Evaluate and adapt customer screening and qualification requirements.

  • Supporting customer and vendor screening issues/failures and failure investigations, including interface with failure analysis labs. Support component test data review and lot sample destructive parts analyses (DPA).

  • Using component failure analysis results interface with the project team to determine root cause and corrective action for EEE components that fail during assembly and box level test.

  • Reviewing SOWs and contractual documents to identify EEE parts requirements, viable alternative solutions, and support proposals/cost estimates/schedules for EEE component selections, and be able to define/flow those requirements to suppliers and customer PMPCBs for approval to use in launch vehicle designs.

  • Interfacing with Engineering/Design team on product problems, shortfalls or potential reliability issues.

  • Feedback to vendors on product problems, shortfalls or potential reliability problems.

  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

A successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Ability to identify circuits and components on circuit boards
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Design comprehensive test programs to exercise performance of products
  • Superb troubleshooting, repair, and testing capabilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Write reports to document failures/problems for vendors and engineering

  • Ability to prepare artwork (ODB++, Gerbers) for fabrication of PWBs.

Qualifications:

  • 4-years of electrical experience preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience as an electronics testing technician or failure analysis
  • PWB design layout experience

  • Experience with high density, complex, multilayer boards (6-16 layers).

  • Experience with layout of analog and digital circuits.

  • Experience with layout/routing of high speed digital and controlled-impedance circuits.

  • Experience with rigid-flex.
