JOB PURPOSE
The Production Supervisor provides direction for 20 to 40 production employees with the assistance of lead operators. This Production Supervisor position provides support for our day shift (Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; additional hours/days as business needs dictate). Implements daily production schedule, policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Production reporting: communicate schedule changes, non-conforming materials discrepancy report (NCR), production results, SQDC boards, labor delegation, etc.
Directs and supervises the daily activities of the production work centers, delegating responsibilities as necessary, to attain goals and objectives in each area. Trains personnel to perform standard work, conduct process audits,
and participate in production directly as appropriate to crew size, scope of operations, and number of lead workers.
With input from operations management and human resources, perform administrative tasks such as: drafting and executing performance reviews, and creating, implementing, and maintaining performance measurement reports
with accuracy.
Assure proper PPE is used per plant requirements. Conveys and enforces company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations. Escalates policy and safety violations to operations management and human resources as needed.
Ensures effective employee relations by providing employee coaching and development. Works with operations management and human resources to make employment decisions and resolve employee issues.
Lead the production floor effort to reduce waste through the use of COS, the SQDC boards, and corrective action sheets.
Conducts periodic cycle counts and physical inventories to maintain accurate inventory levels.
Leads special projects as needed and stands in as back up for operations management during vacations/absences.
Maintains time and attendance records.
Assigned duties as required.
EQUIPMENT USED
This position uses the following equipment in the course of the job duties: roll coaters, CNC machinery, small tool use, forklift, tape measure, caliper, calculator, computer, radio, and phone.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position conducts their work in a manufacturing environment with some exposure to the outdoors; there is exposure to loud machinery, fumes, odors, and dust. Business is cyclical and will require flexibility in shift hours and days of the week worked. Typically Monday through Friday , although Saturday and Sunday work may be required during high sales volumes. Hours may vary to meet the needs of first shift production operations.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) USED
While working on the manufacturing floor, eye and hearing protection is required at all times. Other forms of PPE may be required as defined by management.
DIRECT REPORTS
This position has supervisory responsibilities for a crew of 20-40 operators and 1-4 lead operators. Must be able to effectively assign duties, coach, and develop employees’ abilities and train, evaluate, and discipline subordinate employees in a fair, consistent, and non-confrontational manner. This position reports directly to the Production Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education – Associate’s degree (two year college or technical school) or three to five (3-5) years related manufacturing experience required
- Prior five plus (5+) years supervisory experience in a related field
- Knowledge in building products or related industry
- Knowledge of safety procedures such as lock out, tag out
- Basic computer skills (MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, etc.)
- Prior experience with SAP and Shop Floor, or related software, strongly preferred
- Able to identify possible quality defects and causes and knowledgeable of corrective actions
- Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing and 5s
- Effective communication and writing skills
- Basic math and reading skills
- Able to use measuring gauges such as tape measures
- Efficient problem solving skills and ability to work in stressful work situations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
For this position, it is required to be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. There is a repetitive use of hands required with simple grasping continuously up to 10 pounds and pushing and pulling occasionally up to 75 pounds. In addition this position requires the following abilities: sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, and driving.
