Overview:
Develops and organizes Therapeutic Recreation programming for assigned residences. Creates and implements developmental and age-appropriate in unit recreation activities. Coordinates with clients as well as staff in creating a therapeutic outing schedule on a monthly basis. Communicates with assigned building management staff in all issues regarding Recreation. Participates as an active member of the Bi-Annual Team meetings when applicable. Offers training to direct care staff in how to conduct activities.
Responsibilities:
- Plans and coordinates daily, monthly, yearly, therapeutic recreational programs for assigned residences.
- Communicates with staff from assigned residences regarding preparation of monthly recreation schedule.
- Plans and implements on campus entertainment, workshops, events, etc..
- Coordinates and leads specified off-campus recreational events.
- Assists assigned residences with purchasing and maintaining an inventory of appropriate recreational equipment.
- Plans special holiday events, parties and socials with assistance of co-workers.
- Assists in the organization and leading of specified client groups and activities (i.e., Special Olympic Events, Aerobics, Clubs, etc.)
- Implements specific special projects as assigned.
- Completes and maintains all required documentation regarding recreational activities and client involvement.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A minimum of one-year experience with the developmentally disabled is preferred.
- Driver’s license required.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
- Must be able to read, write, enter dates and follow verbal/written directions, prepare written reports, and complete written forms in English.
- Must be able to verbally communicate in English and direct clients, respond to clients needs.
- Must be able to verbally communicate emergency information in English over the phone.
