Aptiv, established in 1976 as Riverfront Activity Center, was the idea of three friends from the community of La Crosse, WI to develop one organization that supported individuals with developmental disabilities in all three primary needs-social, employment, and independent living. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A RECREATION THERAPIST
As a Recreation Therapist, you collaborate with other departments to enrich and enhance the services provided in La Crosse and Black River Falls locations. In both onsite and community settings, you review programming and update curriculum to give our clients the best possible outcomes. While creating therapeutic recreation activities, you strive to ensure that they meet goals for social skills, daily living skills, dexterity, and mobility. You encourage clients with disabilities to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting leisure activities, such as sports, dance, games, arts and crafts, and gardening.

You also have the opportunity to conduct staff trainings related to recreation therapy processes, procedures, and/or techniques to enhance programming. You are a role model and mentor for our Day Service Associates and assist them in maintaining high-performance standards and quality service. No matter how busy your day gets, you feel a strong connection to the purpose of your work and the individuals you serve.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RECREATION THERAPIST
Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation

Certification through National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification within six months of hire

Experience working with people with disabilities

Access to reliable non-public transportation with required insurance coverage

WORK SCHEDULE
