Hours: Flexible schedule. 4-8 days per month preferred.
Location: May consider virtual/remote visits.

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for observing, evaluating, advising, instructing and recommending diet plans. Through this process, they must assess inpatient or community clients' learning and health needs, providing patient dietary counseling, and providing health/wellness education and support for clients as well as motivate others to set and maintain standards in all areas on the operation. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field required
  • Registered Dietitian Credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration or must achieve Registered Dietitian credential within 6 months of date of hire
  • Active licensure as a Dietitian by the Medical Board of Ohio required
  • Minimum of 1-year work experience as a dietitian preferred
  • Experience in counseling and behavior modification preferred
  • Some experience in working with the community and teaching preferred
  • Possess clinical knowledge base of digestion and nutrient absorption physiology
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of health care professionals including nurses, consultants, psychologists, and administrative staff
  • Possess excellent language and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; teaching and speaking skills; counseling skills
  • Experience in public health
Job Functions:
1. Assess nutritional status of neonates/infants, pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patient through documentation in the medical record.
2. Develops and revises a nutrition care plan based on information from the patient, medical record, family and health care team members.
3. Implements and monitors nutrition interventions in a proactive manner that may include assessment (considering diagnosis, treatment, other co-morbidities, diet history, physical examination, laboratory data, medications, clinical symptoms, and psychosocial, cultural and educational factors affecting nutritional status), client-centered goals, appropriate follow-up and communication with interdisciplinary team members
4. Visits with patients or family members and counsels them on their diet and their needs.
5. Adheres to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies.
6. Complies with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state and HFAP as evidenced by successful completion of surveys with no deficiencies.
7. Orients, mentors, and trains staff and interns, as applicable.
8. Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures.
9. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Bariatric:
1. Performs initial nutrition assessment and pre/post-operative education and nutritional counseling.
2. Counsels post-op patients to ensure Nutritional compliance, nutritional adequacy and formulation of weight management goals throughout their post-operative course.
3. Assesses and adjusts diet regime based on diet tolerance, weight changes, laboratory values and clinical parameters.
4. Monitors patient’s vitamin and mineral supplementation according to daily requirements, absorption capacity, supplement tolerance, food consumption, and clinical parameters.
5. Interprets, evaluates and utilizes pertinent research in obesity and nutrition to assist in “best practice” outcomes for the bariatric patient.
6. Makes follow up telephone calls, emails, and/or letters to patients with questions regarding the bariatric diet, vitamin and mineral supplementation, and laboratory results.

Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. Minimum hiring rate for this position is listed below.

PRN positions are not benefit eligible.
