Registered Nurse (Pre-Op/Post-Op) - Two Twelve Surgery Center - Chaska
Job description
The Pre-op/PACU RN is responsible for the delivery of optimum quality care to patient while in Pre-op, PACU and Phase ll of the Surgery Center. This is a part time position working 4 days a week (no holidays/weekends).
Two Twelve Surgery Center is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health).
Essential Functions:
- Assesses physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, educational and developmental dimensions of the patient from pre-op phone call (Passport) through the patient discharge, and provides written documentation of these findings.
- Assesses and documents patient condition and responses to nursing and/or medical interventions and communicates the information to the appropriate person.
- Assesses patient needs based on pre-op phone call information, scheduled surgical procedure, and physician preferences.
- Assesses supply and equipment needs for pain management procedure, patient needs, and physician preferences.
- Responsible for completing pre-operative Passport, H&P, and providing appropriate admission requirements/instructions.
- Responsible for completing post-operative phone calls. Providing care and direction as appropriate.
- Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical diagnosis, knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, surgical procedures and appropriate standards of care.
- Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the perioperative experience.
- Plans and utilizes resources efficiently to complete the daily schedule in a timely manner while providing safe and individualized patient care.
- Provides care and supplies based on individualized plan of care, identified needs and in a timely, efficient and safe manner. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including child, adolescent, adult and geriatric when providing recourses for the perioperative experience.
- Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department philosophies, policies and procedures and standards of care. Labels and administers medications and solutions as ordered. Applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions.
- Functions effectively in emergency situations and when under stress.
- Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment, and competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to discharge.
- Provides emotional support and comfort for patients/family members, informs family of patient status, and provides patient and family education.
- Assists with procedures (i.e. pain management, blocks, conscience sedation.)
- Follows proper channel of communication and informs department managers of unit activity, patient condition, and personnel concerns.
- Reassess, evaluates and revises the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Responds appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and/or behavior.
- Chart completion with utilization of approved abbreviations per policy.
- Complete, accurate, legible and timely documentation of all patient care delivered at the Surgery Center as indicated per policy.
- Accountable to reporting occurrences through the center’s established occurrence reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
- Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students (includes functioning as a preceptor).
- Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of Surgery Center resources.
- Actively participates in Quality projects, as applicable. Identifies issues & assists in collection of data for Quality purposes. Contributes ideas for improvement.
- Contributes personally to the “team oriented” environment by demonstrating cooperative, constructive, problem-solving interaction with all Surgery Center employees.
- Participates in department/team meetings.
- Any and all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an NLN accredited school of registered nursing.
- Current licensure as a RN in the State of MN or WI multi-state required.
- One year of nursing experience. PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 3-5 years preferred.
- Current member American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses recommended.
- Special Skills: Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Current CPR/ACLS/PALS certification required or completed upon hire.

- Work in the surgery center during business hours
- Travel independently throughout the surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required
- Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
- Converse in a respectful and professional manner
- Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Understand and execute a variety of instructions
- Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Travel to other work locations, if required
