The Marsillach Laboratory in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, housed in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington, has an opportunity for a Research Scientist to conduct research related to environmental and occupational exposures and derived adverse health outcomes.
Purpose of the research project this position supports:
The research at the Marsillach laboratory centers on 1) understanding how antioxidant systems are affected by oxidative stress and inflammation, resulting in disease development; 2) developing proteomics/adductomics methods for biomonitoring environmental exposures in occupational settings, in early life and during aging; and 3) studying the relationship between environmental exposures and disease, particularly from organophosphorus insecticides, air pollution, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals, and oxidative stress.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Scientist will work on multiple ongoing projects under the direction of Dr. Marsillach, as well as manage certain day-to-day activities of the laboratory and mentor students. This position will join the research team on three major ongoing projects. Project 1, the eCig project, investigates the adverse cardiopulmonary effects of e-cigarettes after chronic inhalation exposures in several mouse strains; Project 2, the RESTORE project, aims to identify critical pathways involved in the resolution vs. persistence of particulate matter-induced chronic inflammation in the liver in mice; and Project 3, the RESTORE-AD project, aims to identify critical pathways in the Lung-Heart-Brain Axis that could be involved in the development of particulate matter-induced chronic inflammation in the brain. The Research Scientist will perform similar tasks across the projects.
