SUMMARY
The Researcher II shall focus primarily on laboratory analyses and may include data analyses and visualization. Products included, but not limited to, data spreadsheets and publication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate with CNSS and client staff and scientists in conducting and accomplishing research assignments. Work will include:

• Prepare samples for analysis (sample splitting, sieving, sample dehydrating).
• Operate a Coulter LS-13 320 particle size analyzer, and other equipment to measure sediment grainsize and distribution in geologic samples.
• Operate other analytical equipment as needed to perform sedimentological and hydrological sample analysis.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and perform regular calibration tests.
• Keep detailed lab logs and records of all tasks.
• Enter data and perform quality control on data entry of laboratory data.
• Write and/or assist in writing data reports and other related documents.

• Provide analytical data for reports or peer-reviewed journal manuscripts.
• Write and/or assist with writing of formal publications and/or laboratory documents that will accompany and/or complement data products.
• Assist with data summaries, statistical analysis, and display sample results.

Schedule and Deliverables

• Monthly summaries describing and quantifying work accomplishments delivered to CNSS Program Manager with copies to client representatives (will be specified)

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

• Will report to CNSS Program Manager and may coordinate daily work with CNSS Site Lead (if applicable) and interact with client representative (Task Order Manager).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Marine Science, Environmental Science or related field is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of analytical systems in processing sediment samples (e.g., but not limited to grain size, LOI, water content) and sedimentology.
• Knowledge of marine operations and collecting marine geological, hydrological, and oceanographic samples: sediment sampling, surface sediment collection is desirable but not required.
• Knowledge of R or Python programming, Esri ArcGIS software, etc. is desirable but not required.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and background investigation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This is a full-time position
• Work is mainly onsite at government facilities in St Petersburg, FL
• Domestic travel for field trips may be required by this position.
• Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.
