OVERVIEW: Counsels students within the building for purpose of helping each student to better understand themselves and thus enable them to develop their talents to their maximum potential and gain in emotional and social maturity and vocational awareness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Individual counseling upon request or through referral from teachers, parents, or administrators.

• Group counseling to help students with various topics and agendas.

• Conferring with teachers regarding individual students who may be behavior problems, low achievers, disadvantaged, at risk or in need of special services.

• Conferencing with the school psychologist, and/or out-of-school agencies regarding our students.

• Working with students in classroom groups providing information in preparation for scheduling, careers, and other areas of interest.

• Keep records of request for transcripts and record when each transcript was sent.

• Use appropriate agencies to serve students with handicaps or in need of home tutoring or psychological services.

• Assists staff in carrying out recommendations made by the school psychologist.

• Plans and implements requested guidance/career units in the classroom (Career Day, speakers, Individualized Career Plan).

• Organizes and maintains all guidance materials.
• Coordinates student and parent orientation programs.

• Coordinates materials for the school staffing/placement committee.

• Using the information gained through testing to help students understand themselves better, and for teachers and parents to understand the abilities of students for academic work.
• Using the information gained about students through testing for intervention purposes to improve student achievement and coordinate remediation in scheduling.
• Serve as the chairperson for the Intervention Assistance Team.
• Hold individual conferences with 8th grade students to develop a four-year high school curriculum plan in the spring of the year.
• Information provided in the following areas:- summer school and correspondence work - other questions students have about special concerns.
• Coordinate the master schedule with principal.
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal.

• Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
• Assist administrators with the distribution and interpretation of standardized and local test scores for students and parents.

• Facilitate informational evening sessions for parents regarding financial aid, Advanced Placement coursework, and college night, etc.

• Attend IEP and 504 meetings according to caseload.

• Serve on committees as assigned.
