Job Description Summary:
The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, affiliated with the Department of Prevention and Community Health at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, is a policy and program resource center that explores ways to strengthen the well-being of children and youth through effective school-connected programs and health care services. The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools is seeking a Senior Center Administrator, Research and Evaluation to oversee the Center’s portfolio of monitor, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and research activities.
This highly visible and experienced position performs research and manages many outreach, operational, and administrative functions of the research centers/institute, in addition to serving as a key advisor. This position typically establishes the work plan with sponsors and oversees project completion, including the financial management of project funds for established objectives. This research position manages administrative duties operationally, in addition to providing strategic input for either a research center or institute. This role may work with industry partners and donors/funding agencies to expand sponsored research activities and will oversee program management and research operations for the center/institute. This position typically assists with assessing and evaluating program objectives and execution to ensure a sound basis for long-term program acquisition and processes, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of materials relevant to the objective. The position typically partners on evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives. This is the highest non-management research position within Centers/Institutes. This is a typically a single incumbent position for a Center or Institute.
The CHHCS Senior Center Administrator, Research and Evaluation will conduct the research and evaluation work of the Center and help school districts and communities across the nation develop and evaluate school-connected programs and policies that support the health and well-being of children. This position will have the opportunity to grow the evaluation work of the Center, as well as assist with other Center projects and programs. The Center operates as a cohesive collaborative team and the Senior Center Administrator of Research and Evaluation will be expected to operate as part of the team, working closely with others and operating as part of the unit.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Providing quantitative and qualitative research and analysis for services for various grant-related projects or contracts with community partners.
  • Supervising graduate and doctoral students on applied practice experience (practicum) and final research projects, as well as graduate research assistants, research staff, and consultants.
  • Developing IRB protocols, developing data use and transfer agreements, and overseeing data management plans for human subjects research.
  • Conducting and supervising background research and literature reviews on key subject areas.
  • Providing technical assistance and substantive contributions to other research projects, including: supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection, analyzing data, providing input into research design, monitoring progress of studies, and developing project-specific materials for supporting projects.
  • Providing management and logistical support to the implementation of research and other projects, including direct capacity building with stakeholders and potential supervision of graduate student(s).
  • Writing reports, articles, briefs, and other materials for communication and dissemination of project findings.
  • Identifying potential problems, evaluating the progress of studies at different checkpoints, working collaboratively to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Working with the team to develop grant proposals and strategies to build the evaluation work of the Center and to support other areas of the Center’s work.
  • Participating in Center strategic planning.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 7 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.



Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Program management, grants management, and administrative skills and experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience supervising students or staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience designing or facilitating trainings, and delivering technical assistance
  • Expertise with quantitative and qualitative research, and health promotion planning and evaluation
  • Expertise or strong interest in school-connected health issues in the K-12 population or in school environments
  • Knowledge of the health and education landscape in Washington, DC
  • Familiarity with STATA (preferred) or SAS or SPSS analytic programs, survey platforms, and other relevant software programs (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Google Suite)
  • Graduate degree in public health, education, or related field
